Hello there all you Money smarty pants! I am (Hopefully) going to be coming into back Social Security Disability. I have been unable to work for just over 2 years now, I have been Denied twice and we are now waiting for our Hearing in "court".. I should get it because one of the many things keeping me from working (or living a normal life) is on their "You qualify list"... But when I do get it I will qualify for at the very least 1 1/2 years of back disability pay, after paying my lawyers fees (which are locked in) and then my taxes I should have around $20,000.00 left. Maybe even more than that. We are EXTREMLY financially strapped. Living on just my husbands paychecks every two weeks and the food stamps we get monthly. We have two kids (9 and almost 6), my husband and I are 34 and 29. We have already cashed in the little 401K that I had from my previous job, we do own a home that we owe about 119,000 on and NOOOO liquid assests or stocks. Nothing like that. We have one car that is paid off and not the greatest- it needs work. We have NO savings either and we are both terrified of what will happen in the future, near and far. We also have no life insurance policys either. We have one policy that covers all 4 of us that cost $50 a month, it is a Cancer Policy with an ICU ryder that pays well if one of us gets ill. It also gives us the chance to get back the moneys we have paid into it after 20 years less what we may have gotten from them.
We need some serious HELP on figuring out what to do with this money when it gets here. We are behind in ALL of our bills and I am affraid if we dont have a plan in place that it will all get nickle and dimed away before we know it. So, I am open to any and all advice!!
Thanks all.

You don't say if you're behind on the home or anything...also, if the kids are planning to go to college, does Texas have 529 plans? I'd look at something for retirement/savings--because of the disability, I think I'd try to make sure I had a way to dissolve the plan, if you need it(but not so that you could just touch it at will). Also, most banks have financial planning/planners available. You might want to check with your bank to see what they have available.
Jennifer Meacham posts lots of great financial advice here as well as a few other Money Correspondents, including Austin Cushing who is running the Comment Ignition contest.
Congratulations!
