My mom was in a car accident today. It happened on the way to work this morning. Some woman rear ended her. She was near the one gas station and going to pull out on the main drag. You can turn on red at this light. My mom pulled up a bit to see if anything was comming or not and something was so she waited. Right after she pulled up the woman behind her kept her foot on the gas. My mom's car is only a little over a year old and she's furious. I don't blame her either.
I just wish my mom would've called the cops. I know it's not that big of an accident and could've been a lot worse but after the problems they had with the last woman who actually ran my mom's boyfriend's truck over a snow bank and kept driving I wouldn't be messing around. The woman first tried saying she didn't have her insurance. Mom goes we'll you better find it! The woman gave her an I'm sorry. My mom gave it back to her saying that she knows what the problem is and that people are always in a hurry to get no where! Around here and I'm sure many places this is true. I hate driving and I believe this is part of it. They give liscenses to people who really have no clue how to drive.
I'm somewhat proud of my mom for speaking up for herself though. My mom is so timid at times and can be a doormat for everyone. Some how I'm the only one who she's not a doormat for and that she stands up too. Maybe it's because I'm the one teaching her to more bold and not to let people take adavantage of her. It's a work in progress. I still wish she would've called the cops. Now the woman is denying it's her fault and saying my mom drited back. I'm sure my mom didn't and I believe her about what happened. However now it's just her word against the womans. At least the lady gave my mom the right phone number. My husband did a reverse look up and got the other information the woman wouldn't give to my mom. I'm just glad she's ok.
What makes this worse is that she almost hit my mom at a stop sign before this happened. The road she came off of is a backroad and is a nice short cut for on the way to work. It's just a lot of stop signs which people seem to ignore at times. I guess we'll see what happens.

Debi- My mom doesn't have extra money even though if she would win the case I know the defendant is suppose to pay the cost. My mom just wont go through with it. Her car isn't as bad as it could be. It's probally going to need part of the backend replaced.
Dancing With My Dream"
I've told my mom to call the cops but for some reason things I say doesn't matter. I could tell her the sky is blue and she'll say it's another color or something like it's has orange in it too. (ok, bad example) My advice on men, law and stuff I really do know about is never taken into consideration.
My husband tells her the same thing and she listens.I don't get it. She apparently wouldn't call because the last time when the lady did a hit and run and actually sent my mom and her boyfriends truck up a snow bank the cop wouldn't do anything and she was told to call the state police, then told to call the municipal police and so forth. It happened 3 times and neither wanted to deal with it. They don't always want the paper work but it's their job and it needs done. I told her just because it was a little accident and you don't know the cost of the damage especially since the other lady was at fault. I would've called even before she took and was saying she didn't know if she had her insurance on her. Who knew at that point if she even had insurance.
The lady only gave her phone number, first initial and her insurance info. My husband called my mom back after my mom tried calling the woman to get the rest of the info. The woman goes I'm not giving you a damn thing you drifted back and hung up on my mom. So, thats when my computer guru (the hubby) did a reverse look up and got the other info.
Hopefully if it ever happens again she'll listen to me. It was a hetic week with this past weekend and my brother needing stiches and her screaming for help and oh...it's just been a rough week.(read my other post..a few back and you'll see why)
Also, do not forget to file with DMV if you have to in your state. I know in Oregon you have to file accident reports within 48 or 72 hours.
