My son is sick!

So, some of you read my article about my adventures in babysitting my godson and his little sister the other day, and how they were both super-sick and their parents were inconsiderate and irresponsible. If not, you can read it here to get caught up:

So, last night my sweet little boy woke up at 2:30am crying and sick. He had a runny nose and a slight fever of about 99.8

All day today he had a runny nose and a fever ranging between 99.8 - 101.3 and just wasn't himself. He's been sad and whiny all day long. You can tell he just doesn't feel good.

I'm so freaking pissed off! I know kids get sick. But my son is sick because of these irresponsible parents dumping their 2 sick kids on us for over 12 hours the other day. I just hate to see my son in pain for no reason!

That sucks, Jill! Sick kids belong at home - not sent to someone else's house. I hope your son feels better soon.

I am so sorry jill. One trick I do is if they are running a fever get a washcloth wet with cold water and wring it out, then place it under his jammies on his stomache. It helps with the fever and helps him feel better. When they arent running a fever you make it warm. I have done this with my son since he was born. Hes 14 and still likes it when he doesnt feel well. Try it and tell me what you think.

thanks Alena, we do that. Another thing we do is when he gets his normal bath, we let him air-dry instead of towel drying him. That always cools him down. I've been giving him orange juice and airborne all day. I also rubbed vicks on his chest so he would be able to breathe and sleep well tonight.
I'd be ticked too! I know it sucks, but just give him plenty of fluids and tons of attention! Also, I don't know if he can suck on hard candies yet or not (it's been so long since mine were little! lol), but if he can the Hall's Defense Vitamin C and Zinc Lozenges work wonders and they don't taste bad either. They help my kids. Also another wonder product that we've had great success with is the Zicam Nasal Swabs. Yes you'll have to hold him down to swab his nose three times a day, but they do cut the duration of a cold in half. As a preventive measure, we swab a thin layer of Neosporin in the boy's nose every morning before they go to school, and anytime we have to be around my cousin's kids! lol The entire school year last year by doing this, the boys ended up with one cold each and only one, very mild case, of the flu, so it does help alot.
Oh my God! It is so funny that you put Vick's on his chest! My mom believes that that is the cure all for everything! Colds, sores, fever blisters, insect bites, cuts, scrapes, the works! And of course because she's used it my whole life I now use it like crazy too! Seriously we should own stock in the company! lmao

Wow Krissy. That's a great tip. I've never heard of the neosporin in the nose thing. I'll have to try that. We do have those Zicam Nasal Swabs. I'll try to do that with him, but he's pretty strong. It took both of us to hold him down today to give him tylenol. The little booger used to love it, and said "Yummy" every time we'd give him medicine, but today he was kicking and screaming and fighting like crazy.
Beleive it or not, my herbalist taught me the Neosporing trick and it actually helps! I have a cousin like yours and because of her my kids were always getting sick, and this really cut it down. We started this when Klayten was about two I think. And I'd put the Neosporin on a Q-Tip and put him in my lap and although I held his hands I made a game of it, and let him think he was being a "big boy" and doing it himself. It cut down on the struggle and drama of holding him down. If Anakin is old enough maybe it will work with the Zicam as well. I'll be praying he feels better soon!

Just waits til he gets in the system at (school)! My daughter was never sick before Kindergarten and since then in the winter she stays sick half the time. She was even in the hospital w/pneumonia a couple years ago~
If your son was fighting you it may have been because he had a sore throat and it was hurting it to take the medicine!

My son was 4 mo. old when we attended a neighbor and friend's b-day party at McDonalds. Another former neighbor brought their 2 yr. old that was sick....the rest of us were so angry. Turned out to be RSV...put my son and another friend's child in the hospital...all of the kids and parents ended up getting sick....I have no idea why parents are so inconsiderate.

I totally hate that - and as a teachers aide - I hate when they do it at school too it't just really RUDE!!! Send them the bill for all the meds!!!!

I do understand why parents send their kids to school sick Barb...we have a new policy taking effect that says something about if a child has perfect attendance in a school year, then there is a $1000 scholarship...plus there are other rewards our school hands out for perfect attendance...

As a single parent, I know why it is hard to take time off of some jobs and things, but it is so frustrating to me to live in a society that puts money ahead of even the welfare of our families, much less ourselves.

warmer and breathable settings, if you give him things rich in vitamin C for the reason to stimulate flow of congestion in his nose, or not for the pleghm to rise up as another congestion... you'll have to have especial time taking care of his diet if you just given him foods with sugary contents...

wow i am sorry to hear this thats just like parents of kids at my kids school last year sending their kids to school while having chicken pox and spread diease all over school thank god my kids did not get it
but on the other hand it would be nice so it was over.but thats horrible for parents to do that.

So sorry your son got sick. My kids used to get sick every time we would let them play in the play area at McD's or other places and we finally caught a clue and stopped letting them play at those places. They don't get sick as much as they used to. They also wash their hands all the time.

When a child has a fever get a brown paper bag tear it in have...the bag should be big enough to cover the torso...put vinegar on the two pieces...put the wet paper bag halves under their' night shirt...one in front and one in back. Believe it or not it brings the fever down.

sounds like you definitely need to say no next time they ask you to babysit... I'm sorry that your son has to suffer the consequences on their behavior... it's always the kids who suffer.

I am so sorry to hear that your son got sick from that babysitting nightmare, now you know definitely not to pick up that phone next time they call. I really hope he feels better soon, poor little thing.

Sorry the little fella feels so bad Jill. I hate people that take their sick kids to grocery stores and shopping too. Its just common sense. When you kid is sick keep them home and others arent to bring their children around to get contaminated. The schools almost force Moms to send sick kids to school. They only get so many days a semester. If you miss anymore you had better be dead, is the school,s policy. I woulnt even send my kid to public school anymore if I had little ones. Its horrible out there.
