I didn't even bother looking today at what the milk cost. Last time I did pay attention it was $3.75. That's because I bought the whole milk without the growth hormones.
Milk is $4.00 a gallon here, unless you buy whole milk and its a bit cheaper. I hate that because I try and drink lowfat milk, but everyone else likes whole and its cheaper, so I LOSE....:(
Ours are 3.58 a gallon. The lack of rain in the area has put the crops in a bad growing season, corn goes up, costs the farmers more to feed the cows, and the cost is passed on into the retail cost of milk.
Milk is up here too and may be due to the rise in grain prices on the commodities market and thus higher feed prices - harvest is coming so the futures prices are a bit high now thus the spike in milk prices.
Oh, there is that grain being used for ethanol fuel thing too don't forget!
Our gas went to $3.09 one day last week and down to $2.69 the next day. Some weather person says the word hurricane and it goes up $.30. Maybe the cows drink oil ;-)
Here in Southern California we have a system in some markets where if you buy two gallons of milk there is a discount. It seems not anymore! It costs almost $6.00 now! What to do? You have to buy milk.
