Alright, I am so confused right now. I have never had a problem with the rating system here and I don't really pay too much attention to it for myself. However, I can't understand for the life of me why some people downrate articles that can't possibly offend them or even cause any question. I am talking about those articles telling about a family member or something that happened. I just don't know what gets into people's heads when they are rating. I think that you should not give a 10 if you don't find an article is worth a 10, but the negative downrating on such silly things is crazy......That is it, I am done venting !! LOL

I have never understood some peoples rating so I try not to worry about it! Here is a 10 from me. I hope you feel better anyway!
You'l get so jaded that you won't even notice after awhile. The rating system here is, or at least has become, just a feature much like a button on a kid's toy for people that are easily amused.

I usually don't bother to rate if I don't think it is worthy of a 9 or 10...what's the point? Also, I don't worry about what others rate my contributions because it is in cyberspace and doesn't matter in real life...

Karen there are several people on gather that dont like that type of thing...unless of course it is them or one of their contacts that publish it....ignore them. Just a bunch of small minds.

Not everyone rates the same way. Some writers feel the members who write about home life are using gather like ablog and aren't true writers so they criticize someone work with a 1 star..But remember this..If they bother to give you a one star. That is better than giving you no star as you make money off it. Not sure how. But that is how it was explained to me.

I give you a ten..excellent question.

I don't think the rating really matters any more. It is nice to see one of my articles remain a ten, but if not, at least people stopped by and commented. That number means more to me.

Frankly, sometimes I am so interested in getting my comment down that I forget to go back up and give it a rating. I really never look at my ratings. I do, however look at how many comments I've gotten and I enjoy reading what people say. To anyone who is offended by people leaving bad ratings anonymously, think of it like this: it is like they're sticking their tongue out at you behind your back.

Some people down rate because they don't like the person or their friends/connections. That's silly, in my opinion. In fact, I don't down rate when I disagree with an article, either. I leave that for my comments. If an article has one line, a gazillion grammar errors, a bazillion typing errors, or makes absolutely no sense (in that I can't read it because it makes no sense) then I down rate it. I don't believe I have ever given a 1, although I have seen many that have deserved that rating. I have given many 9s, 8s, and 7s, as well as many 10s.

No matter where you are, ther's always going to be someone who is either a troll or an elitist. No pleasing some people. But ***I*** gave you a 10! :-D

What some one said was that they thought this was just point whoring promotion.

I have met some awesome people doing this and read some mighty fine articles and seen some neat images. I am so glad I was invited, Thank you all.

There are those who believe that the writing on gather needs to be serious. They tend to rate articles in a different way than those who choose to read and enjoy.
