Am I a gecko?
Am I a caveman?
Is this an advertisement?
No, I just saved $736.00 on my car insurance. Sure sounds like a commercial, but it’s true. My Met Life car insurance policy was up for renewal. The 6-month premium went up to $1251.00. Therefore, I shopped around. Progressive came in at $849.00. I was ready to sign up, but I thought I had better not rush. Then I tried Geico. Their price $515.00. I took it.
I called Met Life to cancel, and they said they have another firm that decides the price for them. I told them if that’s the case, Met Life should fire them. She told me they take in lots of factors. I had none she mentioned except I had recently used more credit. That’s true. My husband goes on business trips for the Government and uses his own credit, and he is reimbursed and we pay off the card. Met Life claimed there were other factors. I asked like what? She said your driving record. She got kind of uppity and said that last year they paid $11,000 in medical claims for my daughter and me. This is true. I was parked and some crazy person ran into the back of us at a high rate of speed. My daughter was injured when she half out and half in the car. She was thrown under my car which ran over her. I was turned in my seat to say goodbye, to my daughter, the car hit, and my spine twisted. I can still hear both our screams. This was this my fault?
They charged me for that accident. They won’t admit it, but that is the only factor possible. I’m now looking into new homeowners insurance as my policy is with Met Life.
Sorry Snoopy. It is the caveman and the Gecko for me. Check your policies often. I made the mistake of not checking for five years. Do the math. If I had changed five years ago, and the savings were the same, I would have paid $1510.00 less a year times 5 years. I would have saved $7550.00.
One more thing I learned, Geico stands for Government Employee Insurance Company. Therefore, if you work for any branch of the government, you get a discount. My husband does and so do I. So check it out for yourself.

Hey, it's my mom; I'll put her on speaker.
First of all, I am so sorry to hear about the accident and the consequences you have endured. I couldn't even begin to imagine the pain you and your daughter suffered. And they wanted to penalize you (in the form of increased insurance premium)!? That's crazy.
I didn't know GEICO was "Government Employee". No wonder they gave my husband a discount (he's in the military). But my current insurance company still offers a cheaper rate, so I am staying with them. (But I do not recommend them because you get what you paid for... POOR CLAIM SERVICE.)
I think you will be happy with Geico. I have had 2 claims with them and both processed and paid very quickly.... There was delay in getting the car back but it was the repair body shop's problem. Although... you do have to go to a Geico approved place for your repairs (if any - hopefully none).
I have been with State Farm for so many years now, with a perfect driving record, and now being compensated somewhat for that driving record of 40+ years, that I have no desire to change companies. Thanks for the heads up. Glad I never went with Met Life.
A lot of auto insurance companies are covering their butts now. AllState advertises protecting you, the driver, against "swoop and swap". It's their way of telling people that they are not going to pay for an accident, especially if someone is hurt.
I did not know this about Allstate, News Hound. What exactly is "swoop and swap?"
it took us 5 years of hell to prove to the courts that we couldn't get insurance and that the owner would NOT fix things like smoke detectors. Appeal after appeal... we finally won.. what we won was the fact that we didn't own 175k for the apt building!!!
Its worth thinking about for 150 a year or so.. Not sure what the laws in NY are but you might want to check them out :)
It doesn't seem like much, but give it a year or two and the car will fault apart from rust. If you don't have repairs you should be fine.
I will say that Geico is the best motorcycle insurance around on policies, rates, and repair.
I've looked into the car insurance laws that have been passed over the last decade only to find out that the high and mighty insurance lobby has been busy at work getting laws passed that tilt everything in their favor when it comes to claims and premiums.
Did you know that:
* car insurance companies can drop if you are involved in accidents that are not your fault ? That's right, if you get hit by someone else you can legally be dropped by your insurance company.
* car insurance companies can drop you if they don't like your credit history, even if you have never been late with a payment to them.
* If you drop your insurance before you get new insurance, the new company can legally classify you as "high-risk" and charge you the higher rate.
What these companies do is continually raise the rates of people who fall under these categories ( and others) . If these customers complains, the insurance companies use these laws as justification for dropping them.
Pretty neat deal. You charge certain customers more and more until they complain. If these customer then decide to leave before they get new insurance, you punish them. And best yet, it's all legal.
The big money these companies make from us is being funneled ( by lobbyists) to the pockets of our elected officials who, in turn, pass laws that make it easier for these companies to take advantage of us. If you think about it, we're paying for all this. Maybe it's time we did a little hard thinkin'.
