I like the idea of exercise as well!

I hope it will help on gas prices. The exercise will sure help those doing it.

my husband works for the oil-field and one day isn't going to hurt the oil company . it would take a week to hurt them and they know that everyone would not give up a week of gas just to prove a point. are you will. they know we aren't that's why they don't care. sorry to tell you this. i hear the talk all the time at the rigs. you think it's bad where you live at try 3.30 a gal just for diesel

My van will remain parked today.
Wish I could say the same for DH, but he has to go to work.

Not buying gas today won't do crap. People will just fill up tomorrow. Maybe if everybody stopped using gas for a day (preferably more), it would have a tiny influence, but just not buying for one day would have no effect on demand.

No gas for me today either...unless I fancy some black beans & rice >;)

No, unfortunately, one day won't really hurt them much, but even if everyone rode a bike, walked or used public transport for one or two days a week...it's possible they'd feel it. Keep up the good fight though!

Amen to that! Being 17 and not having (or wanting, for that matter) a car, I walk everywhere anyway. Hell, if I stopped walking everywhere, I'd probably pack on 10-20 lbs. I want to fight the good fight, but the problem is with these boycotts is that they're completely ineffective.

None of my family is buying gas today. We have to drive where ever we go. We live 22 miles out of town and no stores, or anything for fifteen miles. We pool as much as possible. It hurts us hubby is disabled, so is one son. We live on very tight budget and we don't buy food or not as we need or like. Daughter buys food for us babysitting. She gets $750 in foodstamps. Her kids are here half the time so she buys our groceries so her kids have food to eat and us too. It is very hard at times. We go to the dollar store for gifts for the kids right now but they are going to start out growing that soon. We yard sale too and that helps

Since I am driving over 300 miles, I will need to buy gas. I'm with the people who say a one day boycott is not going to touch the oil companies. They know most people rely on their vehicles and sooner or later will fill up again.

I love to walk! I often walk a 2 mile round trip to get the paper on the weekend.
My son has a bike and we have a 4 cylinder SUV.
We try to do our part! :-)

You know it just sucks because there isn't a shortage of crude oil coming into the USA. Its the damn oil companies have had "accidents" and "problems" at their refineries for the past 1-2 months. they have had to shut some of them down to fix these profit producing problems.

Funny how that happens. I say that if the governemnt had a "non-oily handed president" who was willing to regulate the price of oil these 'refinery problems' would immediately be fixed. Instead they can actually increase their profits by refining less fuel.

The CEOs of these companies should be neutered. Make these bulls into steers.

Sorry i had to spend $61.01 on gas today as my car needed to be filled up to run errands and feed my kids with groceries. I also don't believe one day makes a difference and Snopes has several articles about this.

I don't think it will have an effect, but we can keep trying. I'm looking into buying a bike. My problem is at 55 years old when it gets over 100, I'm going to stay home. Doctor appointments only. We have a pool, and I'm going in neck deep for the summer. Work is another issue. Hang in there folks. I like the idea of castrating some CEO's. The price jumped today from $3.09 to $3.29. Ususally Oklahoma by passes the high costs, but even Wal-mart is joining in the game.

As long as we keep buying cars and buying gas, they're going to charge what they want. One day simply won't do it. We need to be able to go a week or maybe even two without it. I live 12 miles out of my town, and I just can't walk or bike that far to work.

**Don't Speed On June 1st**

As you may have noticed, the price of oil, gas, and food has begun to skyrocket. This has really made life difficult for most of us. What I propose is that we make June 1st, 2008 a day in which we don't speed while driving. Yes, you may have to leave a little earlier, but the benefits are great. If we all decide not to speed on June 1st:

Our fuel usage will be lower (your gas mileage goes up when you slow down).
The demand for gas will be lower and will help drive down gas prices (the "don't buy gas on May 19th" scheme didn't work since people would either buy gas the day before or the day after, which only raised prices and didn't lower demand).
The price of food will be lower (the increased fuel prices affect truckers and raise the price of our food).
There will be fewer accidents (with more people driving slower, the roads will be safer).
You will help fight global warming (by decreasing the amount of gas we burn, we will lower the amount of carbon dioxide that goes into the atmosphere).
You will save money (by helping to lower the price of gas and food, you will save money and help others to save as well).
For all of these reasons and more, I would like to propose that we make June 1st, 2008 a day that we don't speed. Pass this along to everyone that you know and get the word out!
