Pennies...(I save em!) , coins...and Angels?

This is really two articles rolled into one! But they kinda blend.......................................... 

I was reading the other day how some McDonald's in Manhattan didn't want to take some guys rolled pennies....why...aren't they legal tender. I personally like them, call me old fastioned, traditional. I save them and roll them - then put them in the bank.

My one daughter is always giving her pennies away to her little sister, who scoops them up, rolls them and banks them!..she ain't dumb. She knows that they all add up. I will pick up a penny, but I will not spend it! they go into a special jar in my room along with any other coins I find. I call this money Angel Money, I have heard that when you see dimes that your angel is watching over you...I have found countless dimes. I try very hard never to mix those coins or spend them- like as if it would be bad luck.  My kids on the other hand- whoo-hoo ...money....

As for the dime theory, a few years back, while at Great Adventure in NJ- I kept finding dimes all over the park- a higher number than you would ever expect. Then I had this feeling in my gut that something happened. We stayed overnight in a DaysInn, when I got home there was a message on my machine.....it was my father, my stepmother had passed away suddenly. She had a heart attack and died by the side of her daughter's pool. I knew that something had happened..I just didn't know what.

Now getting back to ......................

 I hope they do not get rid of the penny..after all...a penny saved, is a penny earned!!

That must have been annoying for the guy that they would not take the pennies. It remains legal money and should it be illegal to not accept them. I also save every penny I find and other coins I find, as well as all other change I end up with when spending cash. I put it in a container and take it to the bank when it is full and add it to my savings account.

I'm a fan of pennies too. I keep them in a jar at home.

As for the place not accepting pennies, why not? If they were rolled then they would have been very easy to count. Maybe this man was truly hungry and that is all he had. Shame on them

I hadn't heard about dimes & angels. Maybe I won't be so quick to give those up either!.

I wasn't familiar with the dime/angel story. I'm glad you told it here. I always pick up pennies if I see them, for good luck. I don't separate them, I just put them in my change jar when I get home. We use the money for vacations (surprise).

My kids LOVE pennies. even my seven year old.
Ihave never heard the dime theory but you are probably right. Sorry to hear about your stepmother.

I save my pennies as well. My husband throws them on the ground, refusing to keep any that he receives. Prior to moving to Florida the pennies I saved went with my daughter to VBT.

I have not heard the dime/angel theory...but I love it!

Wow, I am surprised that no one ever heard of the Angel theory. When I first started finding all these dimes, I had mentioned it to someone and they told me that they had heard of that also.....I also forgot to mention- before I started finding all these dimes...I had a dream that I did-ever since since- I have found alot of them!

I have never heard of the dime and angel story... interesting..

I collect change too and a lot of places will not accept a ton of loose change... it should be illegal not to take loose change as it is legal tender...

I had heard of one guy who went to buy a vehicle and they company did not believe he could pay in cash so he brought a few truckloads of pennies to purchase the vehicle.. can you imagine counting all those pennies...lol

Trish, I love that one. Years ago on LI, a guy was pissed that his electric bill was so high- he paid for it in pennies.

I join the count for those who save and roll their pennies! If I see a coin on a sidewalk or store parking lot, though, I leave it for a young child to 'find'. (Sometimes I'll even drop a couple on the ground, just for a youngster to come find.) I can remember (SO long ago) how excited I would get when I 'found' money. I felt like an adventurer who had found a great treasure! Now when I see a coin on the ground I relish my fond memories and hope that a child will be the next to see the coin and experience that rush that comes with a magnificent 'find'!

I've been finding dimes in my bedroom, either next to the bed on the floor or on top of my sheets in my un-made bed. At first I thought it must be my husband emptying his pockets, we have a jar of change underneath his night-table so I could only assume he was dropping change. But why just dimes? I googled 'finding dimes' and 'paranormal' and I couldn't believe all the stories! I've been reading a lot of books lately about how we are all immortal and what happens once we pass over. I'm now getting more convinced that these dimes aren't appearing out of coincidence (because there is no such thing) but a sign of some sort from perhaps my beloved grandmother who passed over in 2001. I'm not finding dimes anywhere else except in my bedroom, has anyone had this kind of experience?

I'd never heard of the angel/dime connection, but don't think I've ever found a dime either.

Since people will short the rolls of pennies, stores don't like to take them since they have to count each one to make sure their registers aren't off at the end of the day.

I spend my pennies. Most of the time it's to prevent getting even more pennies.

I definitely will bend over to pick up a penny, even when it's on the unlucky side up.
