Biggest Drop in Gather Friends

I have been losing "Friends" on Gather on and off since mid last year, when my work started to get busy.  I am not really surprised because I haven't fulfilled my duty of viewing and commenting as much as I should have. But what surprises me was that I lost over 20 Gather Friends within the last couple of days. That's the biggest drop I have ever seen since being a member.

How do you know when you have lost friends? I guess I've never kept track.

Several are cleaning out, doing Spring Cleaning. I am starting to on my groups and friends but for people who hasn't been online for over a month or so.

how do you know you are loosing friends?? And why would people disconect due to you not commenting thats not right. I hope you get more friends that are real friends.

Maybe it is a glitch, check and see tomorrow or the next day and see if the number oes not go back up.

Some folks have left Gather lately too. There was apparently some drama and other stuff I missed but people are gone.

I have heard of people disconnecting simply because you don't comment on their stuff, or they'll threaten to remove you if you don't start doing more. To me this is just selfish. Some people have real lives outside of the internet, and simply don't have the time to be on here. I know there are a bunch of people on my list that don't comment on me much, but that doesn't matter to me. I just like reading interesting stuff on here, sometimes I comment sometimes I don't, and I won't remove someone from my own list simply because they have real lives.

If those are the "friends" you've lost, I'd say Good Riddance. To some of us, Gather is not about duty, tit for tat, or point accumulation. It is about reading and commenting on those things which interest us or reading about people we care about.

I have a full time job, a wife, 6 kids and other things I have to do. I don't have time to comment all the time or even post. lately I have been lucky to post once a week. I do try to come on here and give a bunch of views. People need to realize people have other lives and they should not disconnect from you because you don't comment enough. I will never remove a friend unless someone really disrespects me or my family. The more views the more points.

Selene, was it the day they did the upgrade? There seems to be some glitch around the upgrades where people are disconnected, but neither of them did it. I've had this happen to me, and seen others comment on it, where it's only resolved because one person asks the other what happened, and they realize it was a glitch. If each side assumes the other disconnected, and don't ask, they never figure it out.

I get both sides of the disconnection due to not commenting issue. I have a few connections who *never* comment on anything I post, and I have commented on them a lot. If I don't find their content especially interesting, I think about disconnecting because of it, and sometimes I do. But then there are others who I just really enjoy reading, or, like you, who I know will get around and comment when you can, but mostly you're very busy, and that's fine. We've been connected a long time, and that's always been ok with me.

It could be a glitch. One time when Gather did an upgrade, I had to reinvite several of my friends to connect again. They were all writing me wondering why I was not commenting on their work anymore...and the reason was because I had stopped receiving notifications because they were no longer listed as being connected to me.

I found out the number of my friends dropped because I just accepted a new friend, and the total number of my friends was about 20 less.

That stinks...I hope it was just a glitch. I often don't have time to comment on everyones posts, but I do try to give page views and read things as much as possible. I think that is the biggest part of points anyhow (?). People shouldn't drop friends just because of that...

Huh. I don't even know how many connections I have so I wouldn't notice. I've dropped a few people recently myslf because they were rude and I don't need to be connected to a**wholes. You, however, were not one of them. ;)

If I am counting my friends right..I have lost over 200 friends in this last glitch. how do I check how many friends with out counting them all?

Too bad this happened to you. You won't ever lose me for anything unless you were rude, crude or offensive to me or my family in any way. I usually take the high road and don't disconnect from people for any other reason. Life's too short.

I haven't been on Gather in a long time, since I didn't have a computer, so I don't know how many connections I've lost. 20 in one day seems like quite a lot to lose, though, especially when you didn't do anything controversial that people might be angry about. That seems strange, and I'm sorry that it happened to you.
