Here we go again, the media always looking for a way to conjure up turbulence. Now that Palin is out the way for a while, President Barack Obama's wife Michelle Obama is the new target in motion.
In 1985, Michelle Robinson her maiden name at that time wrote a thesis at Princeton University. She titled it, Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community. Her thesis has made major headline news all over the internet, newspapers, political news, talk radio shows and through conversations of others.
In her own words:
"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my blackness than ever before" "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be towards me. I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances under which I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if to them, I will always be black first and a student second."
Is Michelle too black for white America or not black enough for America/ Why was the thesis unavailable for reading until after the presidential election? Those are just a few questions circulating in reference to her thesis.
During a previous speech Michelle has also stated, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country." That statement also brought about negative criticism and concern, forcing her to explain the comment.
For me all of this is ridiculous. What does her thesis she wrote 23 years ago have to do with right now and Barack Obama? Some people say she is bringing Obama down with her thesis and overwhelming comments. I have listened to Michelle and what I see is a black woman who proved that just because she's black doesn't mean she's not capable of starting from the bottom and working her way to the top. Her father worked and her mother took care of home, but she didn't consider herself no better or no worse than anyone else. My problem is why everytime someone writes or speaks the truth, they're wrong. She basically wrote about her experiences and observances at Princeton Univesity. As far as her saying now she loves her country, I took it as since black people, especially women are looked down upon and discriminated against, she's proud of the woman she became. She graduated from a predominately white University to prove she could do anything she wanted to do. Black people are outnumbered no matter what they do or try to achieve, and they are unaccepted to those who think they are more superior. My youngest sister recently gradutated form University of Minnesota majoring in Mortuary Science. She was the only black person who graduated in that field, and she was awarded student of the year. So anything is possible

As to her statement about being proud of her country. The voters didn't have a problem with the statement at all. There were a few nut cases who tried to make hay out of it, but it didn't amount to very much. I think that her sentiments were understood by people with any sense of decency.
I am a no body , I have not achieved great things as the OBamas or the Clintons, but I have always been proud to be an American and proud of my country.... we live in the best country in the world... We can achieve anything if we put our minds to it.....as for what she wrote years ago... I didnt think it was a big deal but now along with the racist Rev. Wrights remarks... maybe, there is something to all of this after all.
Very few of us are talented enough to rise to the level that the Obama's have risen to. I wouldn't compare myself to that. It isn't realistic. We all have reason to be proud of ourselves in our own right. This election was historic. America showed that it was capable of electing an African American for president. That is a big deal. I remember when the Chicago Transit Authority would not hire an African American as a bus operator. Things have gotten much better in society. There were many African America parents who didn't use to advise their children to go into politics or public service. Today, that has all changed. We really do have more to be proud of today than we used to.
Add to that the inability of some to think in context and perspective, who can't see all that you are because of what you look like or because they can't understand multidimensional thinking.
You feel it.
I takes a big person to overlook the smallness of others.
Joe, I happen to be a "voter" and I did/do have a problem with Michelle's statement. Please, don't try to speak for anyone other than yourself. I also resent being referred to as a "nutcase."
AND
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."
Which merely reflects her disappointment in others regarding acceptance beyond RACE and that she now views that maturity in America.
I see no contradiction nor problem with the sentiments she has expressed.
In that same era, a college professor told us that women couldn't expect to get a grade higher than a B in his Logic class because "women aren't logical".
We've come a long way, Baby!
The Obama BFF's are very troubling.
If someone tells me how they feel or about their experience I think my choices are to believe them or call them a liar. If it is about their opinion, I can disagree or agree.
Micky:
As far as Obama's million dollar home which is irrelevant to this matter, if you have a problem with him and his associates you should have had a problem with Bush as well!
