I first clicked Daniels name, but got a gather error message, then I clicked the link that was provided  "YourBigMoney.com"  which went to a scam site.  When I clicked the "Ping daniel vince back" link I got the same error message.

Has anyone else gotten this in either their gather or personal email?

It's spam and should be reported and the spammer will be removed...

I got this ping this morning. I was able to go to his home page and he just joined yesterday and had nothing posted or information on himself. I noticed he was going crazy pinging a lot of people with this same message. I didn't even go to the link...just deleted the ping. I figured it was a scam...and I was right.

How RUDE !!!!
Send a Gathermail to "abuse" (no quotes) with the url of the ping or the sender. This is one TOS error that Gather polices.

this daniel person sent you a spam ping for the scam site. gather has deleted his account which is why you get an error when you click the links to him or to ping him back. This has been a huge problem the past month. Someone is spreading the word that Gather members are easy to spam with the ping feature. Something I told them would happen when they rolled this out last spring. Just ignore these types of pings, delete them, and don't click any of the links the spammer leave because you may end up getting a load of spyware from them!!!

I've turned pings off.

Q: Why in the world would anyone want to be bothered with such insignificant twaddle as pings?

A: Too much time on their hands.

I'm way to busy to care about hearing if any of my 300+ "friends" here at gather just pooped or figured out how to code a link in their comments.

Why gather did away with our front page and allowed BS like pings is way beyond reason.

I had two pings....one from him and another with a woman's name....both the same message..I didn't do anything because it was way too early for me to be awake...hadn't slept and was awakened by the loudspeaker at the school across the street....I was going to look into it later, but when I got on again, both pings were gone.....I thought it might be what you say it was....thanks

You can set it so that you either have to approve pings or so that only connections can ping you. I did the latter after I got a spam ping about a month ago.

I think it's been removed and some others also received similar spamming pings. We need to report them right away when we receive them.

I've never received anything like this. But, thanks for the warning.
I've reset my pings to acquiring my approval first. That's how you can just decline the spam. After reporting it of course.
