Obama refuses interview by gay publication

Who cares what he has to say anyway. He doesn't know enough to begin with. I'm not voting for any of them as it is. I'm going for a non-Republican/non-Democrat...and I'm a gay man who's registered as a Republican in New York State, too. (How did this not surprise me seeing how he refuses to salute our flag, say the Pledge of Allegiances or sing our national anthem.)

activists had been fighting for homosexual rights for years prior to the Stonewall Riots. In 1950, a homosexual man named Harry Hay and a group of homosexual activists decided that they were tired of unequal treatment because of their sexual orientation. They launched the Mattachine Society, which unified isolated homosexuals and also encouraged them to fight for their rights. The activism of the Mattachine Society served as an inspiration for the first student gay rights organization. Students at certain colleges began to see the importance of equal rights for LGBT people. The first student gay rights group was formed in 1967 at Columbia University. The group began because of a student, Stephen Donaldson, who identified himself as bisexual. After the discrimination that he faced for being honest about his sexual orientation, he decided to form a Mattachine-like group called the Student Homophile League (SHL) that advocated for gay rights. Although he faced challenges in trying to get the University to accept the organization, Donaldson eventually received approval from the administration.

Specifically, the word 'gay' was preferred to previous designations such as homosexual or homophile; some saw 'gay' as a rejection of the false dichotomy heterosexual/homosexual.

I guess the "Change" Obama and his camp are shouting about, is not really that much of a change and it only applys to a certain part of the country.

As an ex-NY'r, and a republican, I've said many times, If I had to choose between Obama and Hillary, my vote would go to Hillary. Obama is but a flash in the pan. I'm not crazy about Hillary for past reasons, but Obama will not provide the "Change" so many are looking for. In addition, change can be something that bites you in the behind, it's not ALWAYS a good thing.

It is the right of the candidate to decide whom to be interviewed by and who to refuse. Maybe the did the wrong thing hut that is their decision & they made it...!

Obama, in my opinion, doesn't have enough experience to lead this country, especially with the mess it's in because of Busch. I'm not overly keen on Hillary, primarily because of good ole bill, but if I had a choice between them, it would deffinitely be Hillary.
Somehow I cannot imagine a president Obama. Nor a man who won't even salute the American flag for that matter.
As to weather Hillary would truly advance our cause, that would remain to be seen. Talk is cheap, and action speaks louder than words.

You would vote for Hillary? An openly admitted liar? Wow, Obama really scares some people. Obama has a right to grant interviews with anyone he wants. The fact is simple. There are more voters who think Homosexuals are wrong than voters who are homosexual, or back homosexuals openly. Personally, I am straight, but I openely back homosexuals. Everyone should have a right to love who ever they want.

Now a question? Tell me which Presidential candidate that has the experience to run the country? The constitution states be American born, and 35 years of age. That is it. Fact is no person who has never been President knows how to be President until they are the President. That is a job there is no formal training for, if there were formal training do you really think Bush would have passed? Hillary steals money from her campaign, dodges court cases, robs 2 million dollars from Peter Paul, and Stan Lee, lies about her husband to get him in the office, lies about trips she took while her husband was in office, lies about her husband's cheating while in office. Lies to congress, lies to the public, and lies to the press.

Obama hasn't been in washington long enough to get beat down by the lobbist, and big oil companies. He is the bast chance we have in getting our troops back home, or gas prices back down, and he is the medication that can help to start to heal this nation's ties with other countries.

GO HILLARY!!

Yes, go Hillary, right on out of town! :o) no offense. I just couldn't resist. Voters have to think what is best for the country not what is best for any particular fragment of our society. Voting for an issue, however dear to your heart makes no difference if the person is not good for the entire country.

I don't know Obama's views on homosexuals or why he refused the interview. But I do know that Hillary isn't the answer just because of his failure.

This one is a hard one for me to comment on. I see both sides (as there is two sides to every story). On one hand as someone else said, he has the right to grant interviews to whoever he wants, but at the same time, I would think there would be no reason not to grant an interview with the gay publication.

I would like to see Hillary show her support for gay rights. But, like Rob, I'm voting for one of the third party candidates. I just don't know which one.

Obama must have had a conflict or something because he is not prejudiced against gays.

While I am not surprised that McCan refused the interview, white ex-military republican that he is, I'm rather disappointed at the homophobia of Obama! Go Hill!!

Obama is not homophoic. I read more about this and it was just this particular publication, which had already made an endorsement of Hillary, that he declined an intervieww with. That doesn't mean that he hates gays. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. Now McCain...that's another matter. He definitely has an issue with gays.

I think it was probably poor judgment for Obama to refuse the interview. However, he may have had reasons for doing this, which we do not know or understand, that had nothing to do with being anti-gay. Has he refused to speak to all media that supports the rights of same-sex couples or just this particular one?

Amazing - just because one person makes one decision that goes against what one believes is right, you automatically made a hateful and incorrect accusation. This is not a defense of him or his position. I disagree with Obama on nearly every issue and would rather have my toenails pulled out with no anesthesia than vote for him. But it just points out (again) how narrow-minded and judgmental the supposedly open-minded and tolerant side really is.

I'd just like to point out that one of the main points of the article, if you had read it, is not just the fact that Obama declined the interview of this particular publication but that it had been quite some time since he had granted any gay/LGBT publication/organization an interview. That, I think, speaks more toward a pattern of behavior. If it had just been the one publication--which, self-admitting their minor role as a small publication--then it probably would have not been much of an issue. This is a quote from the article that I think is more telling of Obama's general tendencies/attitudes/whatever you want to call it:

I'm sorry. You are right - I did miss that in the article. I probably just skimmed over it the first time, because I thought it was part of the tag information. Now I totally understand your point. I stand corrected.

Gimme a break. I'm sure this isn't the first publication OHB has declined an interview, and it probably won't be the last. Get over it.

OOOPs. The initals should be "BHO", not "OHB".

Senator Clinton has supported gay rights for many years. Obama, the great uniter, isn't interested in talking with gay people and he probably stereotypes gays like he stereotypes rural whites.
