a daily article to combine food and health
When Hee Haw came on the scene in the 70's;there were more farmers per capita. Life was much slower paced. The food chain was much more local. People cooked more and had fewer health problems. Although it is true that environmental factors play a huge role in the increased health crisis; what we put in our bodies have the greatest impact.
As lifestyles have changed to meet the increasing demand just to survive,so have the eating habits.Fast food resturants have sprung up in an attempt to keep up with the whirlwind daily facsimile of existance. Farmers no longer have the "lions share" of what goes into stores. Across these United States, farmers struggle more with increased costs and being at the bottom of the production line, recieve less for their efforts.
Unless we decide to change our daily lives; improve our own situation by food and lifestyle changes; our health will dramatically decline. To start the battle against aging, one must start with individual choices. What we put in our bodies fuels the engine. Antioxidants play a big part in todays fight against aging. The definition of antioxidant is: a substance that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen.
Oxygen is vital to live but is "rust" to the bodies aging process. Antioxidants prevent "rust". They can be obtained in suppliments. By combining wholesome foods with antioxidants, eliminating stress and environmental factors, aging can be slowed.
Salt is a preservative. The more salt applied or ingested, the harder the "engine" has to work. By steering towards substitutes,we can maintain a healthier balance. Onions, chives, scallions, ramps for those of you on the bold and brazen side, and even garlic are all beneficial.
Today, liver and onions combine a nutritious benefit. Rolled in a minimal amount of flour, the liver is fried up with onions, already browned in a canola oil instead of vegetable. Mashed potatoes on the side, sprinkled with basil. Basil has extra effects. It also aids in digestion; contains carotenoids and folic acid. A good soure of calcium, potassium, and iron.
