I got picked up yesterday morning along with a bunch of my peers and then dropped right back off at the grocery store. I was a little disappointed and I was looking spiffy and new and I just got dumped at the store. I was alone in a dark place with others younger than I.
Four hours later, suddenly there was light and I was grabbed and taken outside again. I was taken further this time, I was taken to a park and I was squeezed into a square shape and passed from one hand to another. There was a little plastic bag exchanged into the hand that I had just occupied. I was taken along for a few hours and it got dark outside, there were smells around a fire in the woods, sweet pungent smells of smoke and laughter. I was taken out again and I saw now that I was with many many others of my kind. We were all placed on a log. The wind picked up.
The woods were huge around us and the laughter got louder. A large gust of wind grabbed me sitting on top and I flew away and one person chased me but fell down giggling before he could catch me. I blew further away.
I left the woods on breezes that tickled and ended up alone attached to a bush. There was a road nearby and cars whizzed by. I was stuck but I watched, waiting. Morning came and I was lonely. Then I saw a woman come out of the bushes near me and I watched her herding two young children with no shoes on their feet. The woman's hair was lanky and unkempt and the kids were crying. The lady stopped and openedd her purse and got out a small bag of bread and told the children that was all she had left. The kids complained that they were hungry.
The wind still blew but I was pressed into a place I could not escape but yet I thought this woman really needed me. I mustered my strength and flapped myself to try to get loose. I struggled and squiggled in the breeze and suddenly I was free and I flew and smacked into the woman's face. Her surprise was followed by delight and I was caressed in wonder. What a wonderful feeling. I was held lovingly and carried for a mile, out in the open in her gentle hands.
I was taken into a diner and I was responsible for those children not only getting a good meal but getting smiles for the first time in a long time. I was put once again in a dark place but didn't mind so much. I knew I had a wonderful purpose and I had helped someone.
