Shaking yellow leaves from the tree
So I can gather misery
And let forgotten troubles cease
Like ashes of melancholy
Let the storms that knew me so well
Find not a place where they can dwell
And let raindrops no longer melt
Into a soul that silence felt
My branches bare to touch the wind
To know green sprouts of life again
There may be toil, but I'll not spin
Or dig shallow graves to lie in
Warmth of the sun is mending me
Dewdrops have formed so I can see
The mountains high and fields of green
And hear sweet songs on lilting breeze
Now as I praise the Lord above
With a new found hope in His love
And as I crawl He lifts me up
My leaves contain peace like a dove

Great ....
I love the way you feel low and then you find the strength to rise. With God at your side.
A great poem Bill. You took us on a journey. As we walked with you we did not know where you were taking us until the end.
Well done.
When the Dutch Elm disease wiped out our residential trees, it was one of those great losses to the accustomed. It is almost impossible to remember what it was like, so much have things changed from my youth.
It seems my dad worked around the clock. I'm so different than him. I guess when you lived through a depression, you have a different perspective on things. You never want to go back to that kind of doing without. Today we have credit cards and pay as you go. My dad wanted to pay everything off right away, but then the arrival of us kids sort of changed his well laid plans, and he had to compromise on his goals. I think he could have been a pro golfer if he hadn't been working all the time. Such are choices and what we do with them.
I had a very comfortable life thanks to my dad, but I'm afraid I got a bit lazy because of his providing. I still haven't learned to drive at age 57 in a few days. Never owned a house. Never married. Didn't move out from my parents until age 40. Life is strange!
