It's a Fine Line

It's a fine line between love and hate

It's a fine line between bad and first rate

It's a fine line when provoked to a fight,

You need to decide what's wrong and what's right.

Pick your battles is advice that makes sense

Sometimes it's best to sit on the fence

You can't always win and it's not worth the time

To constantly get riled and step out of line.

Insults are hard to take and stand down

Not retaliate and just give a look and a frown

The bigger person walks away with out a word

That hurts more as it's as if you hadn't heard

Value control and the power it gives

You are the one who decides how to live.

Spencer, it took me a long time to realize what is written in this poem, myself. I used to get so upset I thought I was heading for a heart attack. You can't change others so I decided to change myself. I now will ask questions like, did you say that to hurt me and why would you want to hurt me? Did you have a bad day? What/who are you really angry at? It can diffuse what could be a major fight and refocuses the person on why/what they are feeling versus the anger they are trying to prevoke. This is such a wonderful poem, It is the best gift of advice any one can receive. Someone can only hurt you if you let them. It takes two to tango and two to fight. If one turns a deaf ear, and leaves, the other has no audience. Happy marriages, happy families and happy lives come from this. Great work Heather, you've got it down pat.
