What's Going On?

I believe that with the extreme bias of the media, there's a lot we're not finding out about, or only getting part of the story. However, I agree with Corrine in that it's really no different now than it has been for generations past. It's just that now with so many media outlets to choose from, we're becoming more aware of how biased mainstream media can be.

I was referring to the complexity of all the decisions that are being made on a daily basis and how hard it would be for someone to keep tract. When we were children our parents made the decisons that affected us and we really didn't notice much until we hit our teenage years. I was thinking more about the mentality we have as children to leave decisions to others as we were conditioned as children and how that conditioning may lead us to having a blind eye to the decisions that are being made that can effect us. The media only gives us a small peek into what they want us to know about.

You make very good points, Corrine. Even if we had access to all there is, who would have the time? I know a psychologist that is so current event challenged, it is sad. She avoids the news and never reads a newspaper. She makes me wonder how many other people do this. And is this what happened in Germany during the time of Hitler, were the people ill informed or did they just have too blind of an eye? There in lies the dangers of not knowing what is going on.

If you can get some Canadian stations you will hear news about our country and leader decisions we don't hear in the states. Americans have been lulled into complacency with media, games, sports, feel good, good food, entertainment. Even ournational holidays no longer reflect the true meaning of why they were made. We don't see a lot of parades and speechs and community pulling togather on Memorial day, Independence day, Labor day, Veteren's day etc. People make it into a lets party, have fun, relax and play days instead. Many forget the reason we even celebrate them or if they do only pay small homage to them. Example Thanksgiving. Since when did it become "Turkey Day" and a day for scarfing food and watching Football. How many even stop and think why we have this holiday and actually give true thanks for our nation and freedoms. How many say hey lets make this a real family day and talk about why we celebrate it turn of the T.V and put away the video games and after dinner do some other family activity. Media and Sports have taken over the minds of our people. Plop down with a plate of food, pizza, chips, beer and glue to the t.v and forget about the world around us. The war, chaos, terrorism and more. Complacent. We stess over money to buy yet more material toys and things we don't really need, up grade to some better cellphone when the old was sufficent, or newer car, new furniture buying on credit against the next paycheck which you hope you get and don't get downsized or laid off. Working two and three jobs to make ends meet. A hug, kiss, see ya later to the kids as we drop them off at daycare and school and quickie meals in the evening with everyone going to a different function. Dance class, Sports, golf or whatever. Little family time. For what ? Why and we lose touch with realtiy and the real world. Our world is stress, materialism and bigger and better toys and entertain me I am bored. Americans have forgot how to play to talk and communicate and to pay attention to things around them. They are afraid of things too. Go camping you want showers and hot water in the camp grounds and nice toilets. Your afraid to walk to far into the woods, There might be a BEAR come eat you. In reality most bears and other wildlife avoid you most the time. We are indoctrinated by the media, commercialism and this is why our national leaders get away with things if we as nation paid attention they wouldn't. It really is not going to be all that hard for another nation to come in and take over.

I agree with you, The Lord is My Shepherd D. We get so distracted with entertaining ourselves we lose out on doing other things. My husband got laid off yesterday and we are lucky that we only have our mortgage to worry about. He had a phone interview today and I am praying it will mean a new position.

As much as many have an attitude towards the homeless, many of us are only two paychecks away from the curb. There but for the grace of God go I. My husband got a package so we have some time.

I agree with you Corrine. I have learned in my life that you can't please everyone, you have to do what is best for you/your family. Our country sometimes tries to please everyone and I think that is why the stage is set the way it is. I will never understand why we don't take care of things in America first. America isn't a perfect nation, but I haven't heard of a better place to live.
