I remember the sixties,
The long hair and the flowers,
It was up with the people,
With all kinds of powers.
There was Andy Warhol,
And grey haired heads of state,
National guard shooting students,
They just couldn't wait.
The Beatles ruled the air,
As they were all still alive,
The Doors and the Monkees,
The movie, "Bonnie and Clyde".
No cell phones, no messages,
But the begining of Malls,
Back then the Marboro Man,
Was standing real tall.
The neighborhood event
Was hearing the chimes...
The ice cream truck stopped,
Then we were waiting in lines.
We stuck to bedsheets
When we slept in the summer.
We dreamed of owning a Bug,
Not owning a Hummer.
The food was much better,
Going to the beach was a blast,
Dating was... well the guys had to ask.
Fishnets stockings made
A dent in our legs,
Back then we lived for fashion,
What ever the craze.
We walked everywhere,
Few buses went by.
And if we were lucky,
We might get a ride.
We never got bored
Always something to do,
We were forever in blue jeans,
And true love was still true.

the 60s came and went
Now all our lives suffer
with the best we are bent.
Wild happenings in governemt
children out of control
thoughts of the 60s linger
to those good ole days of old.
Good stuff
I am a lousy critiquer
The sad part is I grew up thinking that events like the civil rights movement had brought more change in our country than it did. I think back then we were optimistic and believed that so many things had changed and the older I get the more I think many things just stayed the same, we just pretend things are different.
