I love twinkies. Years ago it was my favorite treat. There was nothing like eating a twinkie for a snack.
Over the years I gained weight and became a diabetic. Twinkies had to go out the window for me. I eat a twinkie maybe once a year. But, do I enjoy that one time.
In a moment of weakness I bought a box of twinkies and a box of ring dings (my husbands favorite).
They were on sale 2 for $4 in Walmart. If they weren't on sale I wouldn't have been tempted. I knew my daughter and her friends would help me eat them so I wasn't worried about going on a binge. The funny thing about these being our favorite Hostess snacks is my husband prefers yellow or vanilla cake and I prefer chocolate. Go figure.
I sit down in my red chair and bit into my twinkie, savoring the moment. But wait, something is not quite right. The twinkie is not tasting the same. Maybe too much time has gone by since my last twinkie, maybe my taste buds are off, sometimes that happens.
My daughter Jordan asked me how I liked my twinkie and that was unusual. So I told her, fine but something wasn't quite right. That is when she showed me the box and told me I had bought "Banana Twinkies."
WHAT HAPPENED TO MY TWINKIE??? BANANA??? What is going on over at Hostess?
Well, it turns out in my newspaper today an article was written about how Hostess decided to return to the original twinkie filling that was banana creme from the 1930's to the 1940's. A banana shortage during the war made them change the cream to the vanilla creme that we all love and revere. So when you go looking for that twinkie fix, be forewarned...read the label!

Sorry, Carolanne, I just had to get the word out, though, I would have been remiss if I hadn't written this world changing article...
Dawn Selena, Hostess made banana splits? What are they and I wonder how I missed that?
Type2 Diabetes and a recalcitrant bathroom scale have convinced me I don't need those anymore. But I do sometimes miss the creamy little devils.
I knew I was having an operation on my shoulder since Nov 2006 and started my intense avoidance of sugar, I had the operation in February and like I expected my sugar shot up from the stress and wouldn't go back down and I wound up on insulin. For months being on insulin, I have been so good. It was purely a moment of weakness. It was just as well it didn't float my boat because I stayed away...there is still one left after the girls attacked and I have no desire to touch it, or eat it. (smile)
