For Mother's Day - A Stroll Through the Iris

Despite continuing gray skies and rain, I took a little time today to capture some of the iris in bloom. And there is a special treat at the end. Enjoy!

As I was walking back to the house I inadvertently scared the mother robin off the nest she's built in the tree out front. I couldn't resist taking a quick shot to see what she had in there.

Wow! I love the photo of the eggs. Their coloring is so vibrant. The Irises are also beautiful. Our Irises usually show after Memorial Day.

How beautiful. We finally have Iris this year, and the heavy rain took a few of them down, so they are now in my kitchen. I took a picture or 2, but haven't uploaded them yet. I love the variety of colors here. Wow!

I still want to know the names... Tonia.... the names! (of the iris. I know the robin's name: Redbreast)

Very nice photo essay. Irises are such beautiful flowers, and they are so prolific! I especially liked the photo of the irises where the robin was sitting on your mailbox. :)

Sarah - these rhizomes were all sent to me by my step-mother - she has cultivated iris for years and has some exotic varieties. Somewhere, there is a sheet of paper very safely put away (you know what that means - I can't find it anywhere because I put it away so safely) that has most of the names on it. When I find that sheet of paper - you will be the first to know :)

And thanks everyone - one of the most satisfying things about having these iris is being able to photograph and share them all here with you.

Wow... stunning shots and beautiful surprise!

Our irises aren't out yet either... and it looks like it's clouding up again so it might be raining again in the morning. I can't get the plants in the ground or get the transplanting done! It's really too mucky out there.

Sigh.

I got more plants today, and the kids brought me more, too. There is a lot to do but the rains keep putting me farther behind.

Nice work, Tonia! Alas, our Irises are still a month from blooming. And after almost 2 weeks of overcast, fog, rain, and just general sunlessness, the sun came out today and will stay out tomorrow as well! I'm trying to soak up as much Vitamin D as possible.
