Taking a Closer Look

I have been away from home for an extended period of time which has necessitated that I have my laptop with me. This means that as long as I have a high speed internet connection, I can work. Without all the distractions and demands of life at home, I've had the opportunity to start sorting through and deleting some of the thousands of photos that reside on this machine. It has been an interesting experience to look at shots with new eyes. Here are a few that were previously overlooked.

How did those get overlooked? They are all fantastic! The Old Barn really speaks to me. I love the specks of clover in front of it. The Storefront is so neat too. Guess I just really like old buildings with a past that I can imagine. The leaf is totally stunning too. You just always take incredible photos.

When I go out to take photos I usually come home with a hundred or so to wade through. There are a handful that immediately standout and those are the ones that I pull out to store. The others are just left sitting in folders until I get the time to sort through them. I tend to take multiple views of the same scene, looking to experiment with different angles and perspective, and it is actually pretty easy to overlook things under those circumstances.

That old barn just seemed right now to be a metaphor for Mom. Strange how one views images and thoughts they bring forth.

You have "overlooked photos" that are way better than any of my best photos. Your skills as a photographer are certainly unchallenged.

I don't know why, but I love the bridge. I see strong straight lines, the water marks on the pillars that tells of turbulent times when the river must have swollen and raged its forceful way underneath it all... but now, you show us the calmness and quiet times in the reflected lights of a peaceful river... these speak to me of the strength of a structure that must have carried countless vehicles and people across. A bridge has import that we take for granted daily.

Isn't it great to go back over your archive and find treasures you missed the first time? These are all great shots, Tonia! And I know how good shots can be overlooked. Like you, I come home from one of my hikes with well over 100 shots and just pick what jumps out of the gallery at me. But you miss the ones that need some judicious cropping the bring out the composition that's waiting to be seen. I'm glad to see you have the opportunity to go back over things and take a second look.

Your pictures always tell such wonderful stories.

I always think of you when I see coneflowers. This morning, I noticed the first two in my garden this year and naturally thought of you again. Then, ten minutes later, I see the first picture on this article...
