In the end, what matters most is the kids. All of the frustrations, inconveniences and annoyances are now and in the moment. They will pass but the memories that are being formed from the time, energy and attention that both Deb and I are gifting to these children (and the nutrition that is coming in the form of good home cooking) will be things that are carried into a future generation.

So quiet down, cobwebs
And dust, go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby
And babies don't keep.
I never had the cleanest, prettiest house, but my kids and I had lots of fun and adventures, and they'll remember that far better than the condition of the kitchen floor. You and Deb know what counts.
Don't forget about what you're getting from them in return. It's not always apparent initially, but they also nurture our souls.
Michael Masser and Linda Creed got it right with these lyrics:
"I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be..."
And I can add that if you teach a child to cook, and with imagination and courage, you will be well cared for all the rest of your days. Trust me on that one.
Signed,
The Mother of a 33-year-old
I spend the day with my 5 yr old grandson Monday through Friday and the joy he brings me is immeasurable.
