Robert Wexler's ongoing struggle to reach the American people in his call for Impeachment against Cheney and ultimately Bush Junior is finally gaining attention with several newspapers and other national media. About time.....
I've copied the letter from Wexler's office and some of the articles. There are links to other sites.
No man should be above the law.......especially for high crimes of treason against his country. The current administration needs to stand trial for abuse of power and putting our nation's security at risk, along with another thousand or so crimes including siphoning off our nation's assets in the greatest white collar crime of the century, possibly ever. Papa Doc and Baby Doc of Haiti had nothing on the Cheney Bush administration.
Dear Suzi,
As we prepare to celebrate the New Year, my resolution is to hold George Bush and Dick Cheney accountable for their abuses of power. In the last days, we have made real progress: The mainstream media has awakened to this movement and to the extraordinary support you have given it. Your calls, letters, and emails have clearly made a difference. Already 140,000 people have joined us in demanding impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney by signing up at WexlerWantsHearings.com. The power of these combined voices are already shaking up the established order on Capitol Hill and throughout the mainstream media:This week, the Miami Herald printed an article on our efforts that was syndicated in papers across the country, including the Detroit Free Press, Philadelphia Inquirer, Fort Worth Telegram, Contra Costa Times, Sacramento Bee, Houston Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, NC News & Observer, and others. (Click HERE to read the article.)In addition, CBS4 in Miami became the first station we know of to run a television segment about the call for hearings. Video of that can be found HERE.)Perhaps most importantly, just this morning the Philadelphia Inquirer courageously ran the full editorial I drafted along with my fellow Judiciary Committee members Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (R-WI). (View it HERE .) Congratulations to the Inquirer for their willingness to publish a viewpoint that is so widely held by Americans – yet one that other leading national newspapers refused to publish. We have come so far in just a few weeks. No longer can the mainstream media ignore our efforts and dismiss this cause as only part of the fringe left. Already we are seeing tangible results from our combined effort. As you already know, Congress is well behind the American people on this issue. This is an uphill battle, but it's one that has to be fought. It should not be the whole agenda, but it needs be *on* the agenda. When Congress reconvenes in January, I plan to present a list to my Judiciary Committee colleagues of every single person that signed up at WexlerWantsHearings.com. I will go to more of my colleagues and ask them to join a letter in support of hearings. We will build on the momentum you have given us.Last week, I spent an hour on Blog Talk Radio outlining thoughts and answering questions in regards to this work. So many people hit their site that their servers temporarily went down. If you'd like to hear the archived audio, please click HERE.Let's do our best to further spread the message so that list will be up to a quarter million. Please continue to blog, email friends, and insist that your family and friends sign up! Thanks for your commitment.Congressman Robert WexlerP.S. I have been running online ads to make more people aware of our impeachment campaign. If you are interested in making a contribution to this effort you can click here.
MIAMI HERALD: Rep. Wexler calls for Cheney's impeachment
by Lesley ClarkeEchoes of Dennis Kucinich? A South Florida congressman called for impeachment hearings on the vice president.WASHINGTON -- Rep. Robert Wexler is taking on the Bush administration -- in cyberspace. The Boca Raton Democrat has launched a website -- wexlerwantshearings.com -- and is gathering signatures calling for impeachment hearings against Vice President Dick Cheney.''Our Constitution mandates that the House of Representatives hold presidents and vice presidents accountable when they commit high crimes,'' Wexler says in a video on the site, which suggests, among other things, that Cheney manipulated intelligence to boost the case for war against Iraq and was involved in the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame.Within two days of posting, Wexler said he had surpassed his goal of 50,000 signatures and is aiming for 250,000. He's written an op-ed article with two fellow members of the House Judiciary committee, calling for hearings into whether Cheney violated the Constitution.Though the push is, as Wexler acknowledges, a ''huge uphill battle,'' because House leadership has not been interested, the quest has made him a favorite of left-leaning activists.''It's phenomenal. I think he's a very brave person to go against the Democratic leadership,'' said Diane Lawrence, a Kendall woman and member of the South Florida Impeachment Coalition, which began calling for impeachment hearings last August. ``He's gaining momentum, this is what people around the country were waiting for.''Wexler, a veteran member of the House Judiciary Committee, hopes to deliver the signatures to the committee in January when Congress returns to Washington.PRIOR BIDSDemocratic House leaders, however, have sought to quash earlier efforts, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying before Democrats even took control of Congress that impeachment was ``off the table.''Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Democratic contender for president, introduced a resolution earlier this year calling for Cheney's impeachment. It was referred to the judiciary committee.Megan Mitchell, a spokeswoman for Cheney said the vice president ``is focused on the serious issues facing this country.''Wexler, who now calls his 2002 vote to authorize Bush to attack Iraq a ''mistake,'' told listeners of Florida Progressive Radio last week that Congress ``is way behind the rest of the country on the [impeachment] issue.''But he suggested that he had to be convinced.ISSUE IN DISTRICT''When I first heard about the effort I did not fully appreciate that the beliefs being expressed were not simply beliefs of people on the fringe,'' he said. ``But the last two times talking to people in my district, I was convinced that this, in fact, is a mainstream issue.''His 19th congressional district, which is heavily Democratic, stretches along the South Florida coast and includes parts of Palm Beach and Broward counties.Wexler said the hearings wouldn't prevent the House from conducting other business.''We can hold hearings and implement children's healthcare,'' he said.BY LESLEY CLARKlclark@MiamiHerald.com

Clinton could have done so much more, particularly on the global scene, if his White House was not distracted by the (ridiculous) impeachment proceedings.
If just to restore some honor to our government.
Debra, your point is well-taken, however does not apply here. Clinton was impeached for technically personal behavior while being fairly competent in his job. The impeachment process diminished his effectiveness while accomplishing nothing positive. These clowns may be able to keep their pants zipped, but their professional conduct is deplorable. They HAVE no professional effectiveness to diminish.
And you feel the Bush administration could do so much more if we don't have impeachment proceedings? How much more damage could they possibly do? Let's see, WWIII??? They've already bankrupted our nation. We wouldn't want to distract them from siphoning off every dollar in the till. I'm sure there's more somewhere.
In reality---I don't think it's a good idea to let anyone get away with criminal behavior, let alone crimes against our nation (that's a lot of people...more than just sex with an intern) and other countries as well.

As you said, it's ok to disagree, that mean's Doyle has that right as well as you.
If Gore were in office there would not have BEEN a 911. Think about that...
Devin, I disagree. 9/11 was planned long before Bush got into office.
It was the media during Watergate that brought impeachment into American households, long before congress chose that step of action, by informing the public of the criminal acts that the Nixon white house had committed. When the public was informed, there was simply no choice but for impeachment to proceed.
Imagine where we'd be today, had the media been doing its job in informing the public, rather than misinforming us? I would offer that this criminal white house would've been ousted from power and sent to the Hague for war crimes tribunals even before the 2004 election.
Personally, I strongly doubt that the pussycrats have the stomach for this. They'd much rather coast to the 2008 elections with Bush/CheneyCorp held in utter contempt by the voting public, and the entire GOP running like mad away from their presidency, than to do what's right and necessary NOW, and risk the fallout of being swift boated by the "liberal media" for months until the election.
Again, if the media were actually doing their job, you wouldn't see the pussycrats cowering in fear over doing what they're constitutionally obligated to do.
Obviously, this is true, HOWEVER, we know for a fact that Bush did NOTHING with regard to counter terrorism until 9/11, while Clinton was literally obsessed with it in the late 90's. It's highly unlikely that Gore would've ignored the warnings that Bush received on numerous occasions through 2001, given how much attention the Clinton administration had paid to the issue.
"Oops, that should have read said, not saud"
How Freudian.
How Freudian.
lmbo!
I am so sick of good people doing nothing! Strap on a pair if you have to, folks.
I get so sick of this kind of crap. What a bubble-gum response. Typical. We're talking saving our American Republic from fascism and all you can do is get all shrieky because he said he saw a UFO? My dear, do you know what that means? Unidentified Flying Object? You might see something some day that you don't identify readily.
Woooo wooooo..... that's sure reason enough to be a non responsible citizen when it comes to a last chance for protecting our freedom.
{{It will all be over by the next elections and hopefully the people will elect someone who will change the programs you believe will get the country back on track and away from what you consider criminal.}}
I can see you don't do much reading or get much exposure to what the real dangers are that are threatening us. How simple it all must be for you.
Well said, Doyle.
As Don said earlier, how can we NOT impeach them?
Now that is an idea worth pursuing.
Demand impeachment .
Demand Redress.
Demand that the violators of the constitution, and the Profiteers of War get what they deserve. That is not a lynch mob...that is justice. You just may not recognize it, because our justice system has been %^&$%*$%^@$%^ for far, far too long.
NOW, we want to do it for at least 2 reasons.
1) to keep it from happening again in the near future...and
2) to send a message to the other worthy nations of the world that we as Americans will not be fooled for long, and are willing to admit that we have "hired" idiots to run the show. We NEED to do this to regain our reputations and to send out the message that we won't allow it--ever again.
If that's a lynch mob...you ought to see how well I can tie knots!!! Almost as well as the Bushes (spit) can twist the truth.
Wilka
I am consistantly astounded and appalled when I hear someone defend bush (spit.)
I quite simply do not understand such ignorance. SOMEbody told them what to think, and "They read it in the paper..." people should move either north or south.
That's just my opinion. (LOL!)
Wilka
Your comment got me rolling on the floor.
Tough Talk on Impeachment
That said, Massachusetts Rep. John Olver told his constituents, 2/3's of which voted for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney, that he would not support the effort. He told them he believed that if the democrats move to impeach them, they would attack Iran, declare a national emergency, impose marshal law, call off elections. Rep. Olver has a Phd from MIT, is in his sixties, so he has some historical perspective, and doesn't have a reputation of saying such radical things as what he told his constituents. There may be widespread support to remove Cheney from office... but if the democratic leadership fears this type of reaction, it may already be too late for impeachment.
These politicians don't have a choice in the matter. They are sworn to uphold the constitution and defend from enemies without OR within. They are constitutionally obligated to impeach, just as a police officer is obligated to arrest you if you steal or murder. It's not up to the police officer to decide whether or not to do what's right and what must be one, any more than it is up to these elected representatives to do the same. They MUST uphold their constitutional duty, or be removed from office themselves for violating their own oaths.
Thank you so much for your link to the Bill Moyers interview of Bruce Fein, a great interview and well worth the time to listen. For the rest of the gatherites, Bruce Fein is part of the conservative think tank, but he also believes in our constitution and addresses all the reasons our representatives should start Impeachment proceedings. He believes that the House has walked away from their responsibilities to the people of this nation and calls Congress an invertebrate Congress (meaning spineless) and refers to our President along with several other members of the cabinet as not having the cerebral capacity to run our country's foreign policy: hence, Cheney is the President of our Foreign Policy. The focus is on our representatives, whether Republican or Democrat, putting our nation first, before politics, which is not happening.....a sad time for our country. He also refers to the Bush Cheney duo as setting up their own kingdom and overstepping their powers in regards to upsurping our Constitution by declaring perpetual war. Check our the link that Steve B. has provided above.
Well said. Let's hope they get the message.
What's really appaling is that a couple of the people bashing Bush here actually support what has happened since 'The Decider ' has been in office, which leads me to the conclusion that these guys obviously have a serious drug problem, or perhaps they forget which side of their mouths they're talking out of from thread to thread.
Anybody wanna guess who these guys are?
Oh what the heck....here's the answer...
Peter (Peter Pumpkin Eater) Wimpsey and Lyndon(pink is my favorite color) J.
Sheeesh.
43 will likely finish out quietly (hopefully); and maybe some charges will kick up after.
However, pushing for impeachment would be a sure fire ticket for any Republican candidate.
It would be a strong statement that they are cut from a different bolt of cloth than 43.
Dan,
Apparently you forgot that he (Clinton) perjured himself before a court of law.
That's pretty big.
And as far as the argument to impeach GW on his "lying" about WMD's, they've seem to have forgot that Sadaam DID have WMD's, hellooooo 20,000 people killed in a day with gas I do believe counts as an use of WMDs. Duh.
It's just the blind hatred of Repbulicans and GW that clouds their faulty judgement or lack thereof. It's the blindly believing anything that Air America (oh wait, they went belly up) or Katie Courik, Al Franken, NPR, CBS, CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC etc tells them. So of course, after being bombarded by the left biased news media, it only stands to reason the mindless uber libs want to see their "enemy" hanged.
And to say that Clinton's error didn't get anyone killed, they have forgot all about Bosnia and Serbia and a little incident known as Black Hawk Down. Oh yeah, a little country called Somalia had some problems if I recall.
Bruce Fein, former associate deputy attorney general under Reagan, who wrote the first article of impeachment against Clinton, states that congress has a constitutional obligation to impeach Bush and Cheney:
Tough Talk on Impeachment
I'm not sure Cindy or Dan would listen to anything other than Faux News. As Bruce Fein points out, limited cerebral capacity plays into our current state of affairs, and that goes for the administration's supporters.
Fein also uses the term, "invertebrate," to describe congress. So it's good to see that some members of congress are beginning to grow a spine. William F. Buckley, Jr. noted that if Bush/Cheney had been European leaders, they would have been removed from leadership of their party - and that if half of the charges against them are true, then they would not only be impeached - they'd be in jail. Buckley, if I recall, is not a liberal.
Please, give me a break. Don't you people realize that Faux news is the ONLY UN BIASED news network? You think it's biased because they tell the truth and you can't handle the truth! Lets see, the left has controlled the news media since the 60's. Hmm, then ONE network breaks free and the left whines about it! Too funny! Oh, I forgot about the EIB network. You know, Rush Limbaugh. I'll save the typing for you, Rush Limbaugh.....druggie, draft dodger, fat, stupid, uneducated...did I leave anything out? I love it, the left truly shows their hypocracy when they shout about Rush's problem with pain killers, but give the likes of Lindsay Lohan ( who is not of age to drink) a free pass for being an alcholic and druggie. They give Patches Kennedy a free pass for almost killing someone while driving under the influence, they give Teddy Kennedy a free pass for murdering a young girl (NOT his wife) in his car while DRUNK driving. Is there any sense of bias in this? Hmmmmm? And that's only a few examples of the left's hypocracy.
Tell William F. Buckley, Jr. He is at least an intelligent conservative. But thanks for clarifying that your sources are Rush Limpbaugh and FoxNews. Speaking of FoxNews, what do you make of Rupert Murdoch's conversion on the global warming issue?
Remarks by Rupert Murdoch: Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, News Corporation
"As many of you know, I grew up in Melbourne, Australia and the last few months and years have brought some changes there:
In Melbourne, 2006 was the 10th consecutive year with below average rainfall. And 2005 was the hottest year on record throughout Australia.
Australia is suffering its worst drought in 100 years.
Now, I realize we can't take just one year in one city or even one continent as proof that something unusual is happening. And I am no scientist.
But there are signs around the world, and I do know how to assess a risk.
Climate change poses clear, catastrophic threats. We may not agree on the extent, but we certainly can't afford the risk of inaction.
We must transform the way we use energy, and of course not only because of climate change..."
That's exactly the point that Fein makes.
Kevin: "...on the other hand I think that the country does not need the spectacle of another impeachment."
Actually, it may be just the "spectacle" that the U.S. does need - in order to restore credibility with the rest of the world, that America is a nation of laws - not men.
I guess lying the nation into an illegal war, violating international law, violating the constitution, illegal domestic spying, etc., aren't considered impeachable offenses by some. Luckily, there are those who aren't quite so blinded by partisanship, and fully recognize the need to resort to the constitutional remedy when a white house so thoroughly abuses their position of power.
"Apparently you forgot that he (Clinton) perjured himself before a court of law.
That's pretty big."
Only when it's a democrat. When it's a Bushovic, like I. Lewis Libby, there was no underlying crime, therefore the perjury and obstruction of justice never happened.
"they all think it was about "sticking it to" a young intern who was NOT his wife. They forget it was about LYING. "
FWIW, it's not generally considered "lying" when one enters a plea of "not guilty" in a court of law, and is later proven guilty of the "crime" that he's accused of. Let's not forget, either, that Mr. Starr had no business even asking Bubba about his personal life. The investigation that Starr was brought in for was Whitewater. He, and a previous investigator both found absolutely no evidence of Clinton wrongdoing with regard to that. That is when the GOP witchhunters decided to go after his personal life.
What Bush/CheneyCorp have done is far beyond personal. They have violated the very essence of our constitution, and for that, they must be impeached and removed from office.
"they've seem to have forgot that Sadaam DID have WMD's"
No kidding? We're the ones that helped him acquire them. NOBODY has EVER argued that Saddam NEVER had WMD. The argument was that he did not have them prior to Bush's illegal invasion, because 12 years of UN inspections and heavy bombardment did away with them.
"It's just the blind hatred of Repbulicans"
You people need to stop using this pathetic diversionary tactic. Guess what? In America, people can disagree without hating one another. This weak claim of yours is cast about at anyone who doesn't worship your failed, corrupt pretendident the same way that you do, just so that you won't have to actually discuss what specific issues we have very legitimate problems with.
You don't do yourself or your nation any favors when you do this. You're acting in a divisive, evasive manner, solely to shelter yourself from reality.
"So of course, after being bombarded by the left biased news media"
Yes, the "liberal media" that has virtually blacked out any discussion of impeachment for the past 7 years, have refused to discussed the illegality of a corrupt supreme court selecting the president, sitting on the illegal domestic spying program for over a year, until after the 2004 elections, and in general, refusing to bring forth intelligent discussions about the massive damage that this white house has done to this country. An act of treason and a subsequent conspiracy to obstruct justice in order to bury the facts becomes "There was no underlying crime." Give me a break.
This is yet another weak diversionary attempt. It's truly pathetic.
"And to say that Clinton's error didn't get anyone killed, they have forgot all about Bosnia and Serbia"
I don't think there are many, besides you perhaps, who can say that our involvement in that part of the world didn't create large benefit and save large numbers of lives.
"I do believe Clinton didn't get any permission to invade Bosnia/Serbia"
You're right. He should've been impeached for it, and we wouldn't be mired in an unwinnable quagmire in Iraq right now. Instead, the GOP chose to waste the power of impeachment by using it to drag his personal life into the spotlight.
What you bush worshippers need to realize is that there is no requirement for there to be definitive proof, in order for impeachment to proceed. The impeachment process includes the investigation and discovery process. If they're found innocent, they stay in office. If they're found guilty, they're sent packing.
Good one! HAHAHAHAHA!!! That's funny as hell!
If Gore were in office there would not have BEEN a 911. Think about that... "
Devin I guess I'm slow explain to me how Gore being president would have stopped 9/11 from happening. Did he have information that no one else had? Did he have the Gorical mind reading ability? Did the Gorical have the ability to see the future? Or would the highjackers have seen that the Gorical was president and went " Ok false alarm it's a democrat we can wait till it's a republican to carry out the plan"? Please explain it to me because I'm missing something?
Devin can obviously answer for himself, but my thought is that Gore would probably not have ignored a memo titled, "bin Laden determined to strike targets in U.S." It is no secret that the Clinton adminstration warned the incoming Bush adminstration of the threat of al qaeda. But the Bush "ABC (anything but Clinton) doctrine" was in effect. The Bush administration was obsessed with Iraq from the beginning, and this is attested to by Paul O'Niel (Treasury Sec.), and Richard Clark.
Of course, it is unknown if 9/11 would have happened if Gore had been president. But the case can be made that a Gore administration would have been more vigilant.
Would President Gore have prevented 9/11?
Kool aid , hell I want some of her crack , foolish woman.
If Rep. Olver's fears have any merit at all, there is certainly merit in the thought it would take no effort whatsoever on the part of this administration to conduct a "terrorist" incident in an American city, blame it on Bin Laden and Al Qeada, declare marshal law, and call off elections. It would take no effort in the sense that we would not know the difference between a false flag operation and a real one. Paul Craig Roberts, Reagan's assistant Sec. of the Treasury has repeatedly brought this possibility forward.
The inability of our Constitution to deal with such eventualities shows its weakness. We stand at a brink. The next several months may very well determine the success or utter failure of this experiment of our system of governance.
From your mouth to the ears of all Americans.
Bruce Fein is not a Conservative - otherwise he would never have appeared on Bill Moyers' little "I hate W" show.
And Olbermann? Come on, he spews the red venom each night on TV. A pure hater. Who wants to see a temper tantrum each night? Click!
And yes Suzi I did read it. But I'm not a Bushies as you childishly try to call people. Bush has made big mistakes and no matter how many books and what if's people put out it doesn't change one thing. It's still speculation and a what if.
So what's your point Steve?
And why would you repost this for my benefit?
Bush and Cheney refuse to go under oathe and use thier authority to obstruct justice on many fronts. Myers, Libby? I thought if in war time you expose an Cia operative it was treason..no?
as for the person who posted who knew 911 was gonna happen..apparently missed the hearings in which Condi Informed members of congress that she informed Bush at Crawford the " Bin Laden determined to use air craft as a weapon"...what was done? ...I think Bush went on a photo op and cut down tree's with Barney his dog.
And Australia Steve?? Really? So I'm supposed to blindly follow words of some COB's??? Did you know that in Australia they grabbed all the citizens guns and destroyed them? I'm sure this is just fine with you and the rest of the left because you'll never truly understand that the first act of tyranny is to disarm the people.
Now, back to your Aussie idol, what was it I was supossed to listen to from him???
Now, Steve, you DO know what a COB is, don't you??
I took a look at the Bruce Fein link.
If he's a Conservative, he's the most liberal one I've ever heard speak - and unfortunately, I've heard a lot of Liberals speak.
Fein is a shill, and Olbermann is just an angry, pompous blowhard with few verifiable facts and a lot of anger. Notice how that vein stands up on the left side of his forehead when he goes into his nightly tirade against some "perceived" Bush offense? The poor guy should calm down - or he won't be around to see The Great Socialist Takeover...........LOL.
Unitl the actions of the current Admin, the Clinton investigation and impeachment process was probably the lowest point in American political history, brought to you by the corruptors of the GOP. If the Dems rightfully deal unto them just revenge where does the savagery stop? These neo-con bastards are like rabid dogs: they only understand brutal force which is an argument for. But when the pendulam swings back will the next Pres face a Clinton-like spurious impeachment or will sanity and civility return to the Congress? The pattern must be broken and one party has to do it.
The great political prize is a sweep of the White House and Congress. Does an impeachment in a election year further that goal? Bush already is neck deep in the outhouse of history and any outrageous "unitary executive" action would be the death knell of the GOP.
So if the case is so strong for impeachment, then why have all those Left Wing lawyers who hate the Bush Administration so much, not filed any charges?
I've asked this question a million times of you guys on the Left, and I have yet to hear a reasonable answer.
