My Visit To The Grand Canyon part 2: South Rim

I need to make a quick explanation here. From Grand Canyon Village to Yaki Point is not accessable by private vehicle - only the free Park Service Shuttle Buses travel there. Every bus I saw on the day I was there was crammed full of folks and so were the views that they serviced. I wanted to be able to take my time and enjoy the view at my own pace and also hope that there were less crowds at the other views. Everyone has thier own preferred way to sight see and travel :)

The South Rim Drive to East Entrance was what I chose. It is over 20 miles from the South Entrance to the East Entrance. Many of the overlooks are familiar to anyone who has been to or heard about the Grand Canyon: Kaibab Point, Grandview Point, Navajo Point and Desert View. I visited them all plus others I had never heard about.

The distances are all deceiving - the Grand Canyon is immense! The colors of the different layers of sediment in the walls of the canyon are striking. I wish these pictures could do them the justice they deserve!

My favorite view was from Navajo Point.

Next was the view from the Watchtower. The Watchtower was designed and built in the 1930's to blend in with the Canyon and give warning of forest fires.

I've now been all up and down the South Rim and I'm worn out and overwhelmed with all that I've seen. The sun is going down but the day isn't quite over with yet.
