This beautiful flower is somewhat reluctant to gift us with its blooms. This is the only flower we have had this year. Because it is a plant that originated in a tropical jungle, we keep it in a pot, and put it on the proch each summer. I took a few photos, the first is with flash, but I wasn't very happy with the color, so I took another without flash. The color is better on that one, but the image seems a little blurred. After printing both photos out, I went back the next day to take another photo, only to be disappointed by the ephemerality of beauty.
I do hope that my efforts afford you some enjoyment.

This is the frist photo I took, with flash [early in the morning on an overcast day]

This photo gives a more realistic color; unfortunately it is not very sharp.

Alas! Eheu! Uvi!
This is all that was left the following morning.

Thank you very much for the information; and yes, we do hope we'll get at least one flower next year. It hasn't bloomed for a couple of years. it ain't iris, that's for sure!
Your plant looks like it is outgrowing its container. Since Tibouchinas can grow to 15 ft. in height and about 10 ft. in width, I am guessing that your plant needs more growing room. Might be the reason it has not flowered much.
Make sure it gets all it requires to grow healthy. Tibouchinas are quite cold sensitive. They need full sun - 4 hours a day is not sufficient. And if grown in containers like yours, watering needs are critical. Containers dry out rapidly and this can happen in an unequal fashion depending on the soil mix and the sun/heat conditions. Yellowing and dropping of foliage is a pretty sure indicator that watering needs are not correctly met.
Though a prolific bloomer, Tibouchinas flowers do not last long. There is usually as much petals on the ground as on the plant!
