What botanical garden would be complete if they did not have a butterfly garden??? Marie Selby Botanical Gardens had a small butterfly garden, and unlike a lot that I se, it wasn't enclosed. It was just a regular outside butterfly garden like you or I would have in our yard. I think it's wonderful to do it freely, that way the butterflys can come and go as they please. Of course the 'selection' of butterflys is not as wide as some of the bigger, enclosed butterfly gardens I have seen, but it was still wonderful!
As you walk into the butterfly garden, there is this massive trellis, with vines growing all over it, and butterfly fluttering all around it!
And growing on the trellis...
some beautiful yellow flowers.
As I walk through the gardens, I spot a few yellow butterflys, a bunch of monarchs, and even more of these black with yellow ones!

There were literally hundreds of these black ones flying around.
I got a photo of three of them fluttering among a flower...
And again, across the way, more..
.

As I look around I see a variety of pretty butterfly attracting flowers!
These look like clusters of purple berries.
And there were a lot of 'shrimp' plants too.
And some other flowers I can't identify...
As I get ready to leave the butterfly garde, I take one more look back, hoping to get another butterfly photo. No such luck, instead I snap one more shot of the garden.
As we walk out through a different trellis, we head over to the old Selby family house. The butterfly garden was right outside the front door, as well as a patio to sit and enjoy the show!
After passing through the trellis at the end of the butterfly garden, we take a quick look inside the old Selby family house. They have it blocked off, except for a few rooms downstairs. They use the upstairs, to rent out for business meetings.
As we walk through this beautiful doorway
, we spot a fireplace in the next room...
And on a table to the left is a gorgeous live floral display!
The mums in it were as big as my hand!
And the bright pink flowers were stunning!
