Okay, so I finally got my New Years Resolution gift card in the mail from Gather. (it's my fault it's so late, I moved). And I went and bought two books at Borders. One was A Course in Miracles (better late than never). The other is called Cradle to Cradle, and I think it was Jared who recommended this book to me.
Even before I started reading it, I knew it was a cool book - completely waterproof. I wish all my books were. I handed it to the clerk, and she swipped it across the scanner and set it aside. I said, "It's not a tree."
She immediately stopped what she was doing. "Pardon me?"
Cool, now I have her attention. I lifted the book from the counter and asked, "Paper or plastic?"
She smiled from ear to ear..... well close to it, and asked. "Mind if I have a look?"
"Sure, why not." This is how you spread the word, when the world needs to pay attention. It's hard to believe we are still killing trees, when we could have these nice waterproof books.
"It has a nice feel to it," she stated as she caressed my book. "You wouldn't know it wasn't paper."
"The best part is that I can read it in the boat without any worry. It's completely waterproof." I bragged.
By now, she is reading the jacket, so I grow silent. I want her to want the book as much as I did. Ah, but there is a line forming behind me, and she already has me on the register. So, I hand her my Borders gift card, and she hands me my book.
"I earned this free at Gather.com," I said to her in my salesmanship voice. I almost wanted say, "Join the conversation."
"You're just full of surprises," she told me. She then explained to me about Borders rewards, since this was my first purchase there. So, yipee, I get 20% off on my waterproof book. I'm feeling really, really good now. And I think I got her interested in the environment, because the last thing she said to me was, "You probably won't want a bag for these, will you?"
"Nope."
If you haven't read Cradle to Cradle, at least go to your local book store and caress it. You'll be glad you did. I'm tellin' ya, it's better than paper. I have just started to read it, but I already know it will be a good book on environment consciousness.
Thank You Gather
Thank You Borders
