Reading is breathing -- Without breath in my lungs; without a book in my hands - death to the body; death to the mind. The latter the equal of the first.
And reading certainly is sexy -- Among the qualities I looked for in a partner were, among others, intelligence and humor. The sight of a book in my lover's hands reminds me that those same hands will be intelligently used on me. Now that causes butterflies. Being almost 70, I have also learned that laughter occurs in flirting to love making almost as often as, well ....
Reading is my luxury...... Reading is my connection with my kids in a highly electronic world. Reading is wonderful. Reading is an escape. ~Could go on and on!
Reading can be a mystery. It can be a love story. It can be knowledge. It can be a comedy. It can be anything you want. It's your choice what you read. So make the best of it. :-)

I don't think anything else should be taught to a child until he/she can read. It is unforgivable to send children through school without this most important skill.

Reading is highly overrated when it's an Internet job ad. You read their sob story of how they went from rags to riches and how they're going to tell you how to do it...for FREE no less. Then you get 3 pages down to the very bottom and they want you to pay $197 for their membership.
Reading is sometimes a waste of time. Which is why I sometimes start from the bottom.
Reading is something that everyone should learn to do. If you don't learn to read you could miss out on something really great - like a letter saying you've won a free vacation or a years worth of free groceries - no strings attached! :-) If you couldn't read your letter and tossed it as junk, you'd miss out. That would be sad.

Reading a book in a restaurant is a great deterrent for would-be one-liner hitters. Reading is a way to ward off non-readers and sometimes inviting for an avid reader to approach you about what you're reading. Then you have to stop reading and your captivation ceases, while the other reader talks incessantly about what you WERE reading. LOL
Reading is a way to escape the real world and pain temporarily, Reading is a way to go to places you have never been, Reading is a way to relax, Reading is away to lose your self and create or imagine yourself in a different life, Reading is away to turn a bad day to a good day.
Reading takes you to places you've never been to and lets you meet people you would never have a chance to meet. It brings tears to your eyes and tugs at your heart, But can bring joy as well. Reading is life. For someone who can't afford to travel around the world reading can take you to the ends of the earth and into outer space. It can take you under the oceans and anywhere else you can think of. I am so glad I learned to read.
Reading is....a window into the imagination of the infinite possibilities today and forever. A great read becomes a journey and adventure of the written word that connects with a readers heart, mind and spirit; an experience that they might otherwise never have. Unlike any other pursuit or medium, reading provides the reader with knowledge, insight, perspective, intimacy, fact, or opinion, discernment, or objectivity, including every emotion and reaction possible. It's one of those personal and intimate pursuits in life that can last the test of time.

However, to balance the definitions, for some reading is an excuse/escape from living.
Reading is sometimes a waste of time. Which is why I sometimes start from the bottom.
It's like the quote I read one day. Love cannot be learned by sitting alone in a room reading about it. It has to be practiced and experienced. :-)
People who read and don't put their knowledge to good use are wasting their time. In my most humble opinion.
