There's nothing like being at your own book signing. I guess maybe it's just that I feel at home in my own skin as a writer.
There were six authors on the balcony overlooking the first floor of the store. It was a lot of fun and I sold five books. I met some very interesting writers. The young man next to me was an author who wrote a book about how to find women on the internet. He said, "I'm calling myself Flyness today." In his other life he's an engineer, but I thought his book was clever and a lot of fun.
The men who drifted by obviously memorized the title until they could get to their computers ... the women picked up the book and wanted to talk. Flyness told them his next book would be for them.
I plugged mine as "Harry Potter for adults" ... which in a way, it is. As I wrote on my blog tonight, I still see it as a movie.
Is it P.C. to mention my blog at blogspot? (www.wildsparrow-dreaming.blogspot.com).
Anyway, I put the full cast over there. If I could, I'd play a part myself. If I were younger, it would be great to play Theowla Twomothers, the priestess assassin. Given my age, I'd rather like to be Zelwyn the traveling healer or the old crone Kalista who walked with the Nightwing on the inner planes, as the ancient one lay dying.
Maybe at my next book signing, I should say, "I'm calling myself Croneness today."

Magic can't be dissected, but I do think that one of the biggest elements of Alvarra's allure
are the magical names you've come up with! I love, just love them - I could try and in seven lives I wouldn't even get close to conjuring such rich, resonant names for my characters! Bravo!
Is Theowla a recent variant of Tiala, I wonder? But Tiala was a different character altogether,I think... I'm sleep-deprived, so excuse this ignorance, my friend with the magical quill and steely will!
I wonder if any of the writers present there had read your book, and happened to compliment you ... there's a good reason for my asking.
As a professional guitarist I feel most fulfilled when another guitarist comes up after a show
of mine and tells me how much he/she "enjoyed" my playing. NO intellectual dissection of the mechanics - as most professionals are wont to do in any field - ever brings me joy of the kind such a compliment does ... for it means my playing was so laden with feeling on the night that it succeeded in bypassing the minds of these guys and went straight to their hearts!
I hope you managed a few of those compliments from fellow writers. I haven't read a single book in the last five years - of any genre - which deserved such a compliment more.
I'm delighted for you. Congratulations!

And Elizabeth - Thanks, too. A movie producer has a copy of my book. His daughter thought it would make a great film. Crossing my fingers.
I feel as you do in my skin, it's a writer's skin, a storyteller's skin,
Hi, Stirling. I only just found out about the release of your novel. I would love to buy a copy. If you would provide the ISBN number, I would go and order a copy of it. I wish you great success.
Thanks, Mustafa. How kind of you. The ISBN # is: 978-1-934340-34-9.
I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
you ROCK, Stirling.
see you around...and your book on the flip side.
Thanks, Thomas. It look like you're up to your eyeballs writing your own book - when do we read? These days the internet slurps us up with its giant tongue.
