Great idea! My thought is for me to get Mel Gibson or Nicholas Cage to read my stories but then they would probably want something from me for that privilege!

That sounds interesting, depending on what kind of poems they are. I like to hear poems read with the emotions and voice inflections of the writer or reader.

NO - but, just because I'm not interested doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. It sounds like something I'd read about in a museum. It would certainly work on YouTube.

Linda, I just have to comment on the "Think and Grow Rich" book. I'm really going to have to get this book - it has been coming up in a lot of conversations/situations for me lately. It must be a sign!

Yes, it certainly is a sign. Get this version: The Original Version, Restored and Revised.

A coaching group, from Utah, had a "study group" for lack of better explanation. We connected on line (Creation Tree Coaching), and read a couple chapters each week, then had a discussion on the phone each week. We listened to the coaches as they enhances the meaning of the words.
They also had us complete a questionnaire (on line) and connected some of us like-minded people for a Master Mind Group. Ours has been going on for over two years - every Thursday night - for one hr. In NV, it's 8:00, in UT it's 10:00 and here in PA it's 11:00 p.m. but we still make it happen.
These are some of my best friends. We met a couple of times when I visited my brother who lives in UT, so we certainly know each other well.

You'll read about them in the book. Some can be local, and about a specific issue or problem in the community, or general (friendship) like ours. Support and offer ideas on how to improve circumstances and succeed.

I agree with the concept of "not asking permission to follow one's dreams". Videotaping myself is not (presently) a dream of mine, hence this posting. As a unknown author, I wasn't sure that there would be much interest outside the few people who's aware of my poetic efforts.

I think I might enjoy viewing someone reading their own poetry. You always have to imagine or infer where the inflections might come in, or how lines are emphasized.

I agree with Linda A - if you feel that it's something that you want to do and it feels right to you, go for it!

yes u should broadcast ur poetic inspirations for the world to see it is so much better if we can see u and hear u at the same time and definitely the cadence of ur voice would have a significant effect on ur listeners it is funny though because we would be listeners and hearers instead of merely readers we would also be watchers u would give us a window into ur world keep on using ur talents for Jesus definitely bro go for it spoken word poetry is the bomb it is explosive and cool and awesome and definitely worth exploring go for it bro cant wait to see what u come up with ;) one suggestion u might try speed reading in order to get ur poem read in three minutes or u can do it in instalments as u have previously suggested

Absolutely. Poetry comes to life when it is read aloud, especially if it is read aloud by its author. Sometimes we think that we get the words on the page, but when the author reads them - with just the right emotion or cadance - then we know for sure. Go for it!

Is the 3 minute limit imposed on you by the digital camera or by some transmitting program etc.? In any case, it would be good for those who love poetry (sadly not my cup of tea though some poems do go to the heart). Just ensure that the video and audio quality of the recording is good!

Yes, the three minute limit is the video resatrictions of my digital camera. Perhaps with some up front work, I could add some addition insight to a given poem.

Make sure if you have them placed in a public forum that you get copyrights on them. So, hopefully no one will try to steal them.
There are those out there who are dumb enough to try to take others work and proclaim them as their own.
Just get everything in order, legal wise.
Then go for it!

Yes, definitely! It is wonderful that you would want to share so intimately. Poetry is such a personal thing and to hear you read your own work is worthy of applause. I believe you have a captive audience...I dont' think you need to worry.

No, I wouldn't watch your videos, but with my dial up connection, I don't watch any videos. It takes forever.
There are a great many people on Gather who love the videos and enjoy poetry. I think you should give it a try. The best thing about it is that people can view it for years to come.

I would not be too far from Angela for an advice on your topic. But first see if the climate in US suits it, because poems have become practially everybody's leisure activity now-a-days, just as in India we have "shairees". Otherwise, it is ok going for it.
