Gather Question...

I have been at gather a while now, and I probably should know the answer to this, but I just wanted to clarify. What exactly do you recieve points for, comments, ratings, views? I thought comments had something to do with points, but I read that only number of views gets you points right? I just wanted to make sure I understand this correctly!!!

i'm pretty sure the answer is --- d.) all of the above!

pretty sure you rack up points for compelling articles/images/videos that attract attention/comments from other gatherites. you also need to post comments too!

thanks! the main reason I wanted to know is because lately I have been posting "gather games" and I was wondering if someone had left me 10 comments, if I should return their 10 comments on one of their articles, but if just a page view counts, then the 10 comments doesn't really matter.

I have been returning all the comments, but I was curious after I read an article about page views...hmm......

No one really knows the mysteries behind Gather points...how you get the or what they're worth. All I know is you're awarded them as a reward for participating. That being said, I just do everything to make sure I have all my bases covered...plus, it makes for a better experience. You help others and you're helping yourself. Follow the Gather Golden Rule...post/publish, red/view, rate and comment.

I'm really not sure on this one, but from what I've read, you earn points when your articles and images are viewed. You also earn points for rating others contributions. Supposedly, you do not get points for commenting, but I still suspect that it somehow gets worked into the formula.

The exact method of earning points is a well kept secret. If it were known, many people would only do what earned points and would not participate in other ways. For what it's worth, that is my observation.

I belive you get points for all of it too. I mean if you think about it why wouldn't they give you points for comments. Not only has someone taken the time to look at it they have actually wrote something about it. To me that would constitute more points than someone simply looking at it.

This has been the question since I got here. I agree with what Rob said, just enjoy yourself, stay active...write some articles and comment on others and you'll do fine. The most successful way to get points is to write something that generates a lot of attention. I don't worry too much about the points, I just do my thing and they continue to add up.

It's a great mystery. It's been said that you don't get points for commenting but I know that when I make long comments my points jump.

Yeah, a little bti of everything you gets points for. Nobody knows exactly though or everybody would be sharing the secret. I heard posting on images and videos helps, but it could also be a rumor.

I was told you get more points doing Featured Articles, Images, and Videos. But I do not know how much more.

I'm pretty new here myself, so I try to follow the commetns left on these articles. But as I understand it, a little bit of everything. I read in another article, that even if commenting doesn't "earn" points, you are still exposing yourself, which would get you more page views.

However, I just do what I have time for, and comment on what interests me. I usually go through my Feed, and if I have time, I go through the other articles.

I'm leaning more towards the page views. since i started viewing more my points started going up quicker. i don't play the games much anymore.

It sounds like it is a mystery. I don't believe its the page views and I will explain why. My husband made an account and has no pictures or articles for anyone to look at. The only thing he has done is comment on other peoples. Last time he told me he has 61 gather points. I doubt if that many people looked at his page, since he has nothing on it. I too, wonder how you get points, i am on alot and he gets the points???

I just try and stay active, or as active as possible. I also try and publish the best photos I have and I try and write interesting articles and post my best recipes. I just hope for the best once I click on submit!
