Inspired by the great essayist/philosophers of the modern era, from the great Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes to my local WSHU commentators David Bouchier & Frank Deford who is featured on NPR's Morning Edition, I thought to myself that the notion of having an occasional feature would be a pretty good way to get some responses. Now these greats give out their wisdom on a weekly basis, but I'm still working on my time frame.
It is with that frame of mind that I was greatly disappointed when my commentary "Why the hate" garnished only a single response. But articles are like trolling lines (as opposed to the internet use of trolling) and one week later there was a plethora of responses. (Now some might not consider 6 a plethora, but compared to 1 it is certainly large.) Apparently I had insulted a Democrat by suggesting that Democratic politicians go out of their way to insult the Republican Presidents of old. Who would have thought?
Actually it is probably more institutively obvious upon reflection. Why is it that talk shows have nothing but hate and insults? It is because few people respond to complements. Such is the sad state of life, the universe, the internet and even Gather.
And so, I am content to return to publishing these, hopefully weekly, little paragraphs of wisdom in the hopes that one day, BAM, they will get a plethora of responses and I'll have enough points for another Omaha Steak certificate; assuming that those Al Gore inspired Republicans don't outlaw cows because we need all the corn for ethanol.

I did say I would add some BAM so here are some pictures of my inspiration.
