A New Phase - A Photo Essay

I've developed a recent addiction to photographing the moon.  I've been awestruck by the moon since I was a child.  Seeing the movies and news clippings about those lucky men who stood on the face of the moon.  I could only dream of doing that, so I stand here Earth-bound and I explore it with my camera.  

I edited these images with Picasa by Google.  My camera isn't the highest quality for still images.  These are the two that turned out the best and were able to be cleared up with a little Picasa touch. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This second shot was taken in color, and I enhanced the shadows to bring out the detail.  If you look closely, I think I might have changed the phase of the moon by a day or two.   Oops.  I wonder if the fisherman will notice the change in the tides.  Hmm, maybe I should be careful posting this.  Sorry God, I didn't mean to mess with Your creative genius.  I didn't mean to create "A New Phase".

Great job here. I have such trouble photographing the moon! Always come out as a white round blob. LOL.
Great photos, did you use a telescope too? My hubbies going out tonight to do some sky watching, I think he's looking for Mars tonight, if I remember correctly.

Actually what I used to shoot this was the digital still shot on my Canon ZR850 Digital Video Camcorder. I had it set on a tripod, and used the wireless remote to zoom and actually activate the shutter. With it on the tripod and being able to shoot the picture without touching the camera, I'm able to obtain the clarity that Mary is having trouble with. I long for the day when I can upgrade to a separate digital SLR camera just for stills.

These are great shots. I just got a new camera, and can finally take good night shots of fireworks etc., but I still can't get the moon to look like this.

I've yet to try taking shots of fireworks. I've been wanting to try. I was fortunate to have a good night sky to shoot through. The weather wasn't the greatest all day, but it cleared up tonight, just in time for me to capture a good shot.

Had to give God credit for His beautiful work!

I love Picasa too. It's very simple to use. I'm sure the more time I spend taking pictures, I'll want more options and I'll have to learn more. But it works for now.

Shannon, last night's moon was shadowed in clouds at one point too, but by the time I got out with the camera, this is what I got. I'm not complaining at all.

Charlotte, Picasa is not very in-depth as compared to a true photo editor like Photoshop for instance, but for basic editing and tuning of a picture, and for organization of all your pictures, Picasa is great! It runs very smoothly on my 3 year old laptop running Windows XP Home.
