I've only been on Gather for a few months, but the one thing I noticed and I'm sure everyone has noticed and that is the groups seem to be divided into two types. !. Just as a place to post 2. About a subject matter.
Now as a group owner you can moderate whats posted to keep out off topic posts. But why should we need to do this. You join a group about Cats, you expect when you go to it to read articles about cats, see pictures and videos about cats. But unless the group is moderated you will see things that have nothing do with cats. Why?
I'm on one group I joined just because of some pictures I had that I felt would belong on that group. Besides the two pictures I put there, there is nothing else that related to the name of the group. I found that sort of amazing. Not even form the person who created the group....
I think all of us are on at least one group because we are interested in what the group is about. Wouldn't it be nice that all the articles, pictures, and videos belonged in that group.
And we are the only ones who can do anything about that. When making a post - don't just click every group you belong to - click the ones were it belongs. Might take a minute longer.
Now where am going to post this. All the groups I'm in that will accept any kind of post and I'm posting them in the groups that I created. Since I would like the people that are in my groups to post things that are relative to the group.

I think a good rule of thumb - if the places you are posting take up more room than your article, you need to edited it.
I think a lot of people forget that many of the people, that are there people are in the same groups. So they get to see that same post everywhere they look. Makes Gather boring.
We are given a good tool to work with. But it's up to us not to misuse it.
