This is the day and age of computers and internet. Everything, medically and otherwise, is so accessible. There are websites out there like Webmd.com or selfmd.com where you can find out about your symptoms or procedures that are going to be done. There are websites out there where you can ask an expert for free or even ones that you can pay someone to answer your medical question. In this day and age, doctor visits are becoming more and more a thing of the past.
Why should someone need to visit the doctor? What's going to happen? They'll wait a minium of 30 minutes, see the doctor for about 2 minutes, and be told that they don't know what's wrong with them most of the time. Then they pay a copay of anywhere from $10 - $50. You hear stories of people all the time who went to 5, 6 or even 15 doctors before they got a diagnosis of what was wrong with them. By that time, they have spent thousands of dollars and wasted hundreds of hours. Time and Money are too precious these days.
I think it's time that doctors step it up a little bit. I think there should be more co-operating between physicians, more consulting the internet, less waiting, and less money spent. I think that we as patients need to be more pro-active in our care. We need to learn from the internet about what is wrong with us and make suggestions to the doctors. I think it's time that we start getting better care!

I investigate my ailments, what is hurting, my kid's stuff, new meds or natural remedies online or in books or talking to friends and fam, and take that info to the dr to get checked out. I've gotten great results from going to dr's visits prepared like this.
From new meds for me that have helped to my son's diagnosis for an auditory processing disorder(which the dr would never have thought of) to my husbands IBS, none of it would have happened if I hadn't been pro-active.
Being PRO-ACTIVE about our health works!
Here is a 10 for your contribution to that group.
