So, we all want to be on Oprah, right? Who wouldn’t want to be flown to Chicago by the grand diva of talk herself and get to sit on the very couches where Tom Cruise jumped up and down like a looney?
And for an author, to be chosen as an Oprah Book Club selection means that your book becomes an instant bestseller. So who wouldn’t want that? I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I’ve had more than one daydream of a phone call from the Big O (Oprah: My hairdresser’s brother’s son’s best friend’s dog gave me a copy of SCOT ON THE ROCKS and I just lurrrved it! Me: Oprah, I love you!), but that’s as far as it ever goes with me.
But, Bill Schneider took it a bit further. This guy, apparently not content with the random daydream about Oprah, took it to the next level and actually pretended that he was an Oprah Book Club pick! Not only did he post a message on his website announcing that his book was the next Oprah Book Club pick, but he went so far as to post a fake transcript of his appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show!
The best part, of course, is that this guy is a public official. And if you can’t count on your public officials to lie, well, gosh darn it, who can you count on?
So, I ask all of you: what would YOU do to get on Oprah???
