This afternoon my coupons from Gather arrived, for two free Oscar Mayer Deli Creations sandwich kits. I stopped at the grocery store and picked up the Chicken Bacon Ranch, and the Steakhouse Cheddar. The chicken sandwich is on flatbread, while the steak and cheddar is on actual sandwich bread. The packages were in the refrigerated section, alongside the lunchmeat. The sandwiches are meant to be stored in the fridge at home, then microwaved for a hot meal when it's time to cook them up.
I decided to have the chicken bacon ranch flatbread sandwich for dinner tonight. I started to open the box at the side, before I realized that the directions, on the bottom of the package, stated to tear the top off the box. As I read the directions, they said to take everything out of the box. There were individually wrapped packages of the flatbread, the bacon ranch sauce, and shredded cheese, and of course the chicken. The directions also said to open everything . . . this was before it said to place the flatbread on the silver circle inside the box (giving you a place to put all those open items).
Once I had assembled the sandwich, I realized I hadn't read the last step of the directions, which told you how to heat up the meal. I had to lift the box up over my head so I could read from the bottom of the box! (It would be smarter if the company printed the directions on the side of the box.) You microwave the food for 50 seconds to 1 minute, then allow 30 seconds to cool in the microwave before eating.
The food was piping hot after 55 seconds of cooking time, and I did have to let it rest for at least a minute before I could eat it. The food was very tasty and the sandwich held together well. I was afraid that with a flatbread and the loose ingredients, things would fall out. Not even a drop of sauce fell out of the sandwich as I ate it. This was impressive. The portion size was just right.
I bought the steakhouse cheddar for my husband, so we'll wait and see what he thinks about that one. As for the chicken sandwich, it was enjoyable and for $2.99, not a bad deal. At the supermarket, there was also a coupon for $1.00 off 2 of the Deli Creations sandwiches at the display area. Definitely worth a try for a quick hot lunch at work, or for something simple but yummy to fix at home when you're in the mood for something of quality without having to cook it up yourself, or go out to get it at a restaurant.
