I went to pick my son up from school and he came running out of his class with an award and a goodie bag, he won the "Teacher's Choice Award", only 2 kids in his whole grade will receive it and there are 4 first grade classes, so all of the teachers and their aids get together and discuss the kids and agree on only 2 kids.
I was so proud of him, but I am dissappointed that his teacher didn't call and let us know so we could attend his awards assembly. I asked her why we were not called and she said that calls to the parents about awards is a courtesy, it is not required. I am upset, this same teacher called us when my son won student of the month, and when he received the citizenship award earlier this school year. I know teacher's are busy, but they decide on these awards a week in advance, it only takes a minuute to pick up the phone and call, the other parents were called. Luckily my son didn't mind that we were not there to see him get his award.

She sounds considerate... just fell short of your expectations on this round. If his teacher is feeling overwhelmed, have you considered volunteering in the classroom to help out? If you can't do that, maybe she has some "take home" work you can help with.
My son just got a new teacher, and today she actually came and introduced herself. Then she personally let me know that although Roshane did not know it, he was going to be student of the month. I was so happy that she let me know, so that we could share with Roshane how proud we were.
im sorry she didnt let you know one way or other
Did you get him a special treat for winning that award?
