Twas the night before school started...

Twas the night before school started
when all through the town
the parents were cheering
it was a riotous sound.

By eight the kids were washed
and tucked into bed
when memories of homework
filled them with dread.

New pencils, new folders, new notebooks too,
new teachers, new friends, the anxiety grew.
The parents just giggled when they heard of this fright
and shouted upstairs-GO TO BED-IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT!

I love this! I guess I didn't have this problem at much. I always liked going back to school. The first day was nervous because it was finding out the new teachers. But home was more unpredictable then school!

Great poem, very cute!! My kids started Monday, and as I am walking out of the school after taking them to meet their teachers, I hear this woman say "Come on, come on! Mommy has been waiting for this day!"...it's so true though.

Wow very good poem and take on going back to school. Those days are over for me as my kids are grown. My grandkids homeschool and I am the teacher. Or at least for some of them.
