Help! I have a song from Thomas the Tank Engine stuck in my head! My daughter was sick yesterday and I stayed home with her and she rarely asks to watch tv so we watched her Thomas tape about 5 times in a row and now I have "Never Judge a Book By It's Cover" running in my head...
Anyone out there have a toddler with asthma? My daughter is on Albuterol and Pulmicort breathing treatments AND antibiotics AND Singulair...is this normal?
Plus, she's down to eating about 2 bites of food per meal (when she's well).
I've tried:
making mealtime fun
having her help me prepare the food
funny names/shapes/colors
cutting down on liquids
new foods
familiar foods
eating with other kids/Gramma/Daddy
bribery
forcing
telling her she won't grow
She won't drink smoothies cuz she doesn't like cold drinks/foods
Her doc told me she doesn't have any other suggestions and as long as she's not sickly, not to worry and it will pass. She's reed thin but strong but I worry she's missing out on nutrients (she sometimes eats her vitamin, sometimes not). Pediasure gives her diarrhea.
Anyone have ANYTHING else I can try?! I am at my wits end....

If you trust your doc (I know I have been through bad ones before) then I am sure he/she will care enough about your child's health to keep on top of this.
I have one of those "smaller" children too though (she eats like a horse though), I know how seeing other kids' can make you question everything. My oldest is very small & I see her w/ other kids in her school... I wonder what else I can do - but it's nothing, especially at her age. We even have some friends who also have a small child - on growth hormone, talk about makeing me question what we are doing. But I am not going to do that.
My oldest 2 have been on albuterol, but this past year our new doc put them all on xopinex. She's still talking about trying singulair, but we haven't done that yet. Our kids breathing probs are allergy related though, I don't think they have called it asthma yet. For now it's zyrtec & xopinex (as needed).
They say it's not truly asthma yet but that's what the symptoms mimic so for lack of a better term that's what they're calling it. It's "childhood asthma" and they say it comes on with a cold or an allergic reaction to something (we don't know what so we can't prevent it ) and that she'll most likely grow out of it (fingers crossed).
It's comforting to hear that other kids are on this kind of medication and going through the refuse-to-eat-stage..I don't feel so alone.
sounds like they are doing and giving you meds like they should.. sounds like a lot but it really isnt...
and with the eating thing.. they are so exahsted from trying ot breath that they usually dont eat well while having attacks... and that is normal.. just keep them hydrated...
