Suppress Your Appetite, Repel Ticks, Soothe Anxiety and More

I don't know if this works or not, but I do know I LOVE the smell of Patchouli.

What a discovery: one essential oil can do all of the above and more! I tend to eat when I’m tense, but when I dabbed a couple of drops of this great-smelling stuff on in the morning, it was almost uncanny how noticeably less hungry I was throughout the day. It has anxiety-soothing properties, so maybe that was the secret. Also, I live in the Lyme Disease capital of the world and my doctor recommended this essential oil to repel the ticks that can carry it. (Historically, it was used to keep moths out of shawls and other fabrics making the sea journey from India to England.) And did I mention that it smells wonderful? In fact, some of us wore it for the scent alone, back in the hippie era.

PATCHOULI ESSENTIAL OIL is the secret!

To suppress appetite and relieve stress, dab a drop or two on your skin, or use 2 to 3 drops in a diffuser. You can also bathe with 8 to 10 drops. Unlike most essential oils, the scent tends to last a long time and will permeate your clothing.

To relieve water retention, mix 2 or 3 drops in a good carrier oil and massage into skin, or use 8 to 10 drops in your bath.

To repel insects of all kinds, the massage oil described above will do the trick. To keep mosquitoes and other bugs away outdoors, put a couple of drops in a diffuser nearby. And to keep moths and other insects out of your clothing, soak a cotton ball with a few drops and place it in your closet.

Rub a drop on insect bites to soothe the itch or sting.

To reduce oiliness in hair, add 2 drops to a dab of shampoo and wash hair as usual, then rinse.

Helpful Hints:

Please be sure to use pure essential oil. And be aware that, since patchouli oil is strong, some people may be sensitive to it. If you are pregnant, nursing, or have a serious health condition, please consult a trusted medical professional before using this or any essential oil.

Hell, I'll give it a shot! While it doesn't smell as good, you might want to try melaluca oil, can't remember the manufacturer, I think it's some place out of Australia, if interested, I'll try to find the link and post it here. Thanks for posting this, I'm all for trying to keep things on a more organic nature.

Patchouli is a woodsy, mossy and strong fragrance, derived from roots, bark and resin and connects you to the Earth, grounding you and can bring depth to insight to the world of reality. It is excellent for a bath or incense oil burner and good for massage and perfume. It is an excellent anti-depressant and renowned aphrodisiac. Its qualities are balancing, uplifting and soothing. It can however, be overpowering and needs to be used with discretion. It helps to relax and unwind, and is considered a fragrance of the night.

This sounds awesome! I do love the smell of Patchouli so I will definitely taking your tips and trying them out very shortly. I do wonder though....does it help with quitting smoking too?! I guess I will find out soon, lol! Thanks for sharing!

TK - you seem to have a great deal of knowledge on this kind of subject. Do you know where to get "pure" patchouli oil? Maybe a bigger chain so everyone could find it? You can put it here or just e-mail me.

I love the smell of pachouli. Even if it doesn't work for everything the article says, I think using it in a bath would be wonderful. I am going to make it a gift for myself this weekend. Thanks for the tip.
