Here is the thing. Many of us spend days, months and sometimes even years to get things done by our spouses. For instance, I have been waiting for my husband to paint the bathroom for a long time now. At this point, I think I am going to have to play dirty to get him to do it.
The way it happens is like this:
I get out paint and just start painting. I make a horrible mess. I get it on my clothes and in my hair. If you have ever seen me paint, you would know that this is the way I really get when I paint.
My husband comes in and watches for a minute with a little smile on his face, then he says "Honey, what are you doing? Did you clean or prime the walls? You know that you have to do that first? I love you, but you are getting paint everywhere. Did you scrape the old paint or are you just throwing it on? This paint is going to look awful."
I say: "No, baby, I didn't, but I just couldn't stand it anymore. I know that you have been really busy, so I thought that I would just get it done for both of us. I just wanted it painted" (said, of course, in my best sad voice with big puppy dog eyes)
He says: "I'm sorry. I should have done it before. I know you want it done. Let me change my clothes and I will do it. " Then he kisses my head.
After changing his clothes and beginning the "proper" paint process, he says "Wait a minute. You did this on purpose so I would paint didn't you? Oh well, just get me a beer." Then he winks at me and says "You do look cute with paint all over your face anyway"
I am very lucky. For some unkown reason he loves me and puts up with me. What about you?

What do you have to do to get your husband/wife to finally do something that they have been promising to do?

I do admit, I still nag some. I am even worse with my kids. They are happy to see me do ANYTHING for them.
