What’s Happening TODAY on Gather! Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007
Pam is on vacation in the wilds of Maine. Let’s hope she brought her bug spray! Until her return, Gather Editorial will keep you in the loop about what is going on TODAY on Gather. We’ve got a great live chat, some advice on buying wine for your 4th of July festivities, and we want your questions to pose in an interview with Dweezil Zappa!
* Join us today at 2 p.m. ET for a live chat here with Mathis Wackernagel, Ph.D., the Executive Director of Global Footprint Network. He is the co-creator of the Ecological Footprint and will be featured on tonight’s episode of "Big Ideas for a Small Planet" on Sundance Channel.
The Ecological Footprint is a resource management tool that measures how much land and water area a human population requires to produce the resources it consumes and to absorb its wastes under prevailing technology. If you can’t join the chat, feel free to leave Dr. Wackernagel a question. The chat takes place in the group Robert Redford Presents: The Green.
**So you’ve got the beer for your 4th of July festivities. Are you stumped on what wines will pair well with the spicy and smoky foods you will be grilling? Let Food Correspondent David Crowley help you in his article WINE CHAT: Wines Fit for the Fourth. David’s expertise and advice will help you impress your guests with the right varietal.
*** Dweezil Zappa wants to know what’s on your mind. If you have a question for the rocker, leave it at Help Us Interview Dweezil Zappa! You could also win tickets to one of his American dates on the “Zappa Plays Zappa” tour. For details click here. How cool is that!
****And don’t forget to check in on Colonel Possum’s rockin’ 4th of July Gatherstock bash tomorrow. It will be held in Colonel Possum’s group Old Hippie’s Corner. Stop by and say hi! Contribute favorite 4th recipes, family stories and memories of the 4th. Connect with old Gather friends and make new ones. It’s all about having fun. Ooooooo-weeeeee! As promised, I have posted an article on Dave Barry's 60th birthday, July 3rd. I posted it to Gather Essential: News if that is the right spot.
Anyway, it is at:

Hope you like it.
Thank you. I just posted an awesome Gatherstock 2007 Poster by Bill's Spirit. Bill really went the distance on this one! I've made it the group icon for the Old hippie's Corner (OHC).
See y'all at the picnic tomorrow!
Party on!

TJ, Maryanne sent you a response.
Colonel Possum, Thanks for the heads up about the posters!
I haven't been on Gather as much as I would like to. I didn't even know about the "Guides"....
I was under the impression that Gather was going to address this matter in the community, and to clarify the eligibility of Guides in the image promotion. Since they haven't, I will do my best to clear this up...
The image promotion on Gather is a promotion, not really a contest. However, the distinction between the two (in this case) is very thin. Hence, it is easy to see how members can look upon this program as a contest. Therefore, in order to eliminate any impression of impropriety, Gather Guides, Correspondents, Member Editors, etc. are ineligible from this promotion.
However, all future promotions will be evaluated by Gather on a case-by-case basis, and this restriction may be lifted for some programs. Ongoing, Gather will clearly identify eligibility requirements in their promotional materials, as well as through the normal communication channels for the affected member teams.
This saga doesn't end there though. Due to the confusion, and to be fair to everyone involved, Faith, Dan, and the 2 members that each won for their respective comments, will be allowed to retain their gift cards. The second-place finishers on the days that Faith and Dan won will then be awarded with gift cards also, and announced in an upcoming 'Today' article.
I think that this is a fair way for Gather to handle the issue. Does that sound reasonable?
