Welcome to your daily look at what's happening, note-worthy and designed just for you, TODAY on Gather.
(1.) A serious and somewhat disheartening story to start us off TODAY. I recently told you about an important new group on Gather called Five Moms; which centers around five women who have come together to fight the growing epidemic of cough syrup abuse among teens. Each woman has a personal and heartbreaking story to tell.
Now, some people are visiting the group to promote their own drug use and abuse. TODAY, I’m asking you to support the moms and their members by visiting fivemoms.gather.com and lend your voice and perspective to this controversial conversation.
(2.) Also TODAY, I was just a child when the book "Roots” was first published. I remember seeing the gigantic hard-cover sitting on my Grandmother's night stand and asking her about it. If was my first real lesson about slavery in America. Later, the mini-series came out and my whole family watched it together. It made a lasting impression on me, and most everyone else in our nation.
Now, the book is marking its 30th anniversary. Gather invites you to join roots.gather.com and share your experiences and memories surrounding the book, the mini-series and its incredible message of family, tradition, strength and spirit.
(3.) Finally TODAY, a couple Gather Contest updates to share. A big Gather congratulations to Ali E., the winner of “My Favorite Donny Osmond Memory.” Donny picked the winner himself from a group of semi-finalists selected by the Gather community. Check out Ali’s essay by visiting music.gather.com
And, thank you to everyone who participated in the Gather First Chapters Competition. The five finalists will be announced next Tuesday 5/22, and then on Thursday 5/31, the Judging panel will announce the Grand Prize Winner. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date on all the winning announcements right here on TODAY.gather.com
