First, call 1-407-WDW-DINE to set up a reservation. You can get in last-minute if you're lucky, but why leave it to chance? Sometimes Disney restaurants fill up months in advance. To get to the Contemporary Resort, home to Chef Mickey's, you can either take the monorail from The Magic Kingdom or use the extensive complimentary bus system. Buses will take you to the Contemporary straight from your own hotel, from Downtown Disney, or from one of the theme parks. Give yourself a good hour to get to your destination if using bus transportation.
Now for the fun part! You've arrived, and once you check in, there's a photo op with a sign showing you're at Chef Mickey's. As with most Disney photo stops, have your own camera handy and the photographer will be happy to snap a pic or two for you. Later, they'll stop at your table to show you their version for optional purchase.Once seated, your host explains the buffet. You can start at one end with soup, rolls, and a salad bar. Progress on to several types of pasta and meats. One of our family's favorites is the "Mickeyoli" pasta -- cheese-stuffed ravioli shaped like Mickey ears! Opposite the meat carving station, which offers both rare and medium cuts, are the same dishes, which helps avoid back up along the line. It also means you can keep an eye on your table so you don't miss those characters!

During your full service meal, including free soft drink refills, you'll be visited by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy. For us this was a top choice for dining because our son's favorite character is Goofy, and he can be tricky to find around the parks, if you don't want to stand in a long line.
Dessert is extraordinary, including a Mickey Mouse "dome", a chocolate treat including an Oreo cookie base, a mousse-like topping, and small round ears (of course!). Mini key lime pies, crisped rice treats, and a full ice cream bar with delicious toppings finish off your meal.

This restaurant is available as 1 table service credit per person if you are on the Disney Dining Plan. As with any sit-down Disney dining, be sure and mention any special dietary concerns to your server and the chef will make accomodations. For example, two of our kids are lactose intolerant and we've had good response throughout Disney restaurants!
