Here are some tips for those interested in collecting salt and pepper Shakers.
1. Do not remove the manufacturer's or import company's tag, label or stickers.
2. Be careful when cleaning old shakers - Do not soak them in water this could remove the paint. A damp cloth works best.
3. If you aquire shakers that still have salt and pepper in them you should empty them. Salt is very corrosive and can destroy shakers if left to set for a long time.
4. Gererally the salt shaker has more holes and larger holes than the pepper. Salt is coarse and is used in greater amounts than pepper.
5. Check the number and size of holes in the shakers. Most of the time if the shakers have identical holes they are two salt or two pepper.
