Why Don't Group Owners Delete Unrelated Content?

Honestly Dana, I think the group owners have stopped moderating the groups as they were probably bombarded with unrelated content. I have a few groups I moderate, but some I have had to let go of. I was appalled with all the wrong content I kept getting.

I am a moderator for 2 rabbit groups, and I and the list owners put new members on moderation for a while until we are sure they are legit, but on one group we don't have time to look thru all the posts that go thru. But on my other list we have 5,000 members and about 10 moderators, so we closely moderate.

I have a feeling that SOME group owners don't even visit their groups. AND as near as I can tell, there's no advantage for me to post to groups...the people who see my stuff see it from being a connection or from finding me through my comments...or at least that's how I feel.

I moderate all my moderated groups. All my groups that are single topic, get moderated. That still doesnt stop people from publishing kid pictures to my cat group. Members of groups need to be more selective when picking what groups they send their stuff to. My one group, take a walk with me, I had 40 pieces of content waiting approval. All but two were off topic.

I bet it's a chore.

I own about seven groups, and do delete unrelated content, though I do bend over backward at times to rationalize it relates, ha. It is a chore at times, and off and on over the years I have both given up, and then started again clamping down.
People do get offended at times, so I write emails most of the time explaining, which can get old too... but if I've written before sometimes I just blow the article out. Then there are images and videos too! I don't have time to watch all the videos, so they get a free ride usually, and photos, well if not offensive most of those stay too I guess, but they can get buried fast without noticing.
I have thought about setting the groups to "moderated" but am afraid if I do that, not only does it take a commitment to check everyday (maybe several times), I'm afraid somebody might wait too long until I get to it to "OK" so to speak.
Now that I'm done whining, ha ha... I enjoy taking care of my groups, created banners, try and feature a new article once a week at least, and wish people actually visited more. People miss a lot of good stuff by not doing so. I think when Gather allows people to organize groups in their own pages, it will be better, and group owners might get back to like it used to be with theme groups? You don't get anything for owning or maintaining groups, so some probably just give up?
I recently went through groups I belong to, and removed a bunch that were out of control on content for the reasons you state as well. If I go to a bug group, I want to read about bugs!

If I come across something I don't want to read then I skip it. It doesn't bother me at all.

I moderate a group and I deny things I think are inappropriate.. it's mainly for pictures, but if someone uploads an interesting article, not just to get points, I accept it, I also accept videos.. when I come across pictures that are inappropriate or that are probably taken from the internet I deny them, I'm not afraid to hurt someones feelings, I mean, I made the group after all :)

i wish they would but depending on how many unrelated posts were made how much time that would take up doin so especially if there on dialup

I have 4 groups and I am going to log in soon when I'm not so busy and delete the articles that arent related to the group.

I've been trying to get content off my groups, but it never seems to work. There's some kind of kink in Gather that just freezes the whole site for be after an article or two.

Sounds like everyone has good intentions, they just get overwhelmed by so many people that don't care to follow the rules and just want to post wherever. I'm sure the guilty culprits are the same ones that send all the spam emails.

I am new here, but I have noticed the unrelated content you are talking about. It seems to me you have a very easy option to post only to the groups who have a specific interest in what you say.
