Wow! What a freak accident!!! My thoughts and prayers are with this family. A fun time turned into a nightmare.
MARATHON, Fla. -- A Michigan woman who was boating with her family in the Florida Keys has died from an eagle ray attack, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Thursday.
Judy Kay Zagorski, 57, of Pigeon, Mich., died after a spotted eagle ray "actually jumped out of the water and collided" with her, FWC spokesman Jorge Pino said.
"We don't know if she died as a result of the collision or if she died as a result of being speared by the barb, or she may have died as a result of hitting her head on the vessel somewhere or a combination of the three," Pino said via telephone.
Pino said he believed Zagorski was vacationing with her husband and children in the waters near Vaca Key. The woman was taken to Fisherman's Hospital in Marathon, but it was unclear if she died at the hospital.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the woman was attacked by a spotted eagle ray.
"These animals are known to jump out of the water, but I haven't heard of too many instances where the animal actually collides with a boat or collides with a human being for that matter," Pino said.

That is an interesting looking ray. I have swam with rays but not one like that.
As far as the alligators G.T., they really are not a concern. Alligator alley is a long stretch of deserted road in no man's land. I would be more afraid of the other wild life, rather than alligators. They only attach, as a rule, if you come near their den, you are a small animal, or in many cases, people feed them when they are in a park lake or something, and then you run into trouble. Now crocs on the other hand are a different story.
Anyway, sad story.
It is weird that she was on the boat, not even in the water. How could something like this happen? What about the other folks in the boat?
