Question About Epinions.com Ratings

I am not familiar with this web site.

I have never gotten good ratings on the site and the ones I get Very Helpful on in the past usually are not even my best reviews. This month I have actually been for the first time rated pretty fairly and have gotten 9 of my 12 reviews rated as Very Helpful and the other ones I admit are not my best reviews and make sense to be only Helpful or Somewhat Helpful. In the end I have found the ratings are basically just kind of random in that it is hard to tell what people think are good reviews and each rater has different ideas, although once you have a few on a review everyone else seems to follow suit and give the same rating, so if the first few think it is only somewhat helpful even though it is a well-thought out review it loses pretty much any chance of good ratings.

I will have to check the site out...

I posted one review for them a few months ago. The ratings thing completely turned me off the site and I haven't posted another. I found the rating and critique of reviews really odd and annoying. I mean, good idea in theory, but people being people, it just gets weird. I can only imagine the "fun" going on with this recent promotion.

I haven't written anything on Epiinions in months... even though I've been a member since 2000. lol

I haven't written anything on Epinions in years! It just didn't seem worth it to me. Sounds like they need to re-evaluate their rating system.

I've never heard of this site but I would really appreciate some more information about what it is all about and a referral link so I can sign up under you if I am intersted in joining!

It's funny you write about this because I just experienced this today! I wrote a review last night and spent a pretty good deal of time on it! When I got up this morning I noticed an overall "Helpful" rating. Now that surprised me since I haven't seen that many "Helpful"
ratings on one of my reviews in YEARS! I decided to "pretty" it up a bit by putting some subheadings in and putting them in bold print. I don't always do that, but I figured, "what the heck?" Then I wrote to a couple of people who rated me "H" to find out just why...I let them know that I "doctored" up the the review and added one or two more facts. One of the "advisors" re-rated back up to VH and today most of the ratings have been VH.

But it did really bother me that all those H's showed up. Normally I wouldn't care about an "H" but this month (like last month) it means an extra $10 for the VH rating!

Actually my ratings are going up... Sometimes it seems pretty random what they rate high and what they don't.

I've just signed up today and am see how it works out.

I have been a member of the site for many years, and it all depends on the review. If you could, email me a link to the ones you are talking about and I will try to figure out what is wrong.

As for the Off Topic thing, the site has a lot of database problems and it could be that somebody wasn't actually reviewing the item they thought they were. It's been a pain for a while.

I too have been a member for years and it seems the trolls come out of the woodwork whenever they think someone is going to get a bigger piece of the pie than them.

Stick around and read some reviews that are rated "Very Helpful". You'll get an idea of what people expect.

I have been there since Jan of 2000. It is a product review site and the higher the ratings of the review the better placed it will be among all the other reviews on same item. First it would be top reviewers and then the rest. I used to have titles there but slowed down and moved onto BellaOnline and could not do both regularly. You need ten dollars to cash out and with the new promos that have been in effect since Dec of 2007 that is easier to achieve now. People comment on reviews to get more details and if they are interested in item and also if they are an advisor.

I am having trouble seeing what my reviews are rated. When I get an email saying it is rated and go to the page it just says it was rated "show" I tried clicking all around but I guess I am missing something.
