I have a question for those who write on Epinions.com:
The 10 for 10 promotion in Feb and Mar 2008 has an added bonus, where if your review is rated Very Helpful, you get an extra dollar (so it would be $20 instead of $10 if all 10 of your reviews are Very Helpful).
I was looking up some product reviews posted by other members and I noticed that a few reviews received low ratings recently. One of them even received two "Off Topic" ratings, even though the author was talking about the right product.
That makes me wonder if some members are rating the reviews unjustly because of the recent promotion. Or, it could just be a coincident. Have you noticed your reviews getting rated "lower than normal" lately?

ratings on one of my reviews in YEARS! I decided to "pretty" it up a bit by putting some subheadings in and putting them in bold print. I don't always do that, but I figured, "what the heck?" Then I wrote to a couple of people who rated me "H" to find out just why...I let them know that I "doctored" up the the review and added one or two more facts. One of the "advisors" re-rated back up to VH and today most of the ratings have been VH.
But it did really bother me that all those H's showed up. Normally I wouldn't care about an "H" but this month (like last month) it means an extra $10 for the VH rating!

As for the Off Topic thing, the site has a lot of database problems and it could be that somebody wasn't actually reviewing the item they thought they were. It's been a pain for a while.
