A Curious Inquiry: Gather Photogaphers: Do You Order Prints Of All Your Photos?

Since this is geared toward photographers in particular, I sent this to most of my photography groups. If this is not appropriate for your group, feel free to remove or decline it. No hard feelings. :)

I use the Kodak easy share which came with a printer doc. If I want a copy of one of my photos, I can print a professional quality 4x6 here at the house. If I want to enlarge it to a 5x7 or an 8X10, I simply print out the 4x6 then put it on the machine at Wal-Mart for .30cents or what ever it is. The photos I want to keep, but not necessarily print right now, I simply copy to a disk and save for later use.

I used to print them out myself but the quality of my current printer is not adequate. I have ordered prints of some, in fact very few, of my digital shots. I order from Walgreen's online. I upload the pictures, pick what I want as far as size and quantity, then they are ready for me to pick up within the hour. Nice and easy!

I haven't ordered a print in a very long time. I have everything saved on disks. Should I ever need a print, I guess I could have one. My Gather pics are "leftovers" from ones not going into contests and things or often random test shots for color. Yes they have meaning just not enough for a print.

I don't print everything. I will usually put them on CD and print only those that I want.

The only time I order prints anymore is when some photo printing website offers 40 prints for free.....I just pay a small s&h. I have two photo printers at home....one is even high definition.....but I ONLY print photos that I want to frame or give to someone else. Otherwise, I just save them to my hard drive and keep everything cataloged into files there.

I tend to upload printable photos to a photo storing site (I tend to use Kodak's) and either print them, make them into mini photo books or simply share them. In any event I tend to order an archieval CD set every year so I always have backup coppies.

I sometimes print at home the pics that I enjoy, I have a HP Photosmart C 4180 which does a very nice job. On occasion I am asked to take a picture that some one likes and blow it up for framing purposes then I go to Ritz either in person or online. I keep most of my digital negatives on a hundred Gig movable hard drive which enables me to bring thousands of pics with me at all times.

I only order prints on photos I want to frame. Otherwise, I download them to a photo service. The one I use stores the photo images indefinitely, so I am not wasting my hard drive space or putting them on disks.

I also only print (on my printer) those prints I want to frame. I keep all my photos on cd's and I have a separate hard drive to store them on until I get them onto cd's. I WILL take vacation photos to Walmart or where ever for instant gratification.

I've had a photo blown up and printed poster size at an office supply store but I gave it away because I wasn't happy with the quality.
I have a site with some photos that are for sale. If I wanted a nice large print, I'd order it from there, I guess.

I do not have prints made at all, but I do use an Epson stylus printer and photo paper for a very select few. Generally if I print a photo it is for a Greeting Card. For the past 5 or six years I have made Christmas Cards and Birthday cards using photographs and the printer.

There is an exception, I still use film cameras for specific purposes. Those pictures are all printed. I do have a scanner, and I can actually scan a 4 by 5 into an 8 by 10 digital image with it. But I am old, I still have my mother's 1949 Ansco bellows camera. And a 1947 Baldina from Germany.

no - i dont order any of them - i have an epson photo printer R300 and we purchase the premium paper and I am very satisfied with our prints.

Good question. Like you, I post most of the pictures that I want other people to see. My 97 year old grandmother gets prints and I'll make prints for framing or just to stick on my desk.

Oh heck NO! I have a couple high end printers and print whatever I need myself.
Which actually is very few. I enjoy the digitalness and ease of displaying them on my computer or emailing to friends and family.

I didn't order prints for a long time but then I discovered shutterfly and snapfish and places like that and they offer 20 to 30 free prints when you order from them for the first time so I made the rounds and did that. I got quite a few free prints of the boys mostly, just paid shipping and handling so I was pretty happy about that. That's almost the only prints I ever order, prints of the three boys though the last pictures I took of my brother, nephew and dad will be ordered by me next payday. My brother went through my gather pictures and was disturbed to find so few pictures of him, his family and the parents. But I don't have current pictures of them mostly so, I use what I have and that's just the boys. I want to have all our pictures put onto disk and eliminate most of the photo albums though.
